I'm having a weird problem with my new instalment of the game. I installed EURome from the CD, VV from Gamersgate and up to 2.35. I checked and I have the right checksum (QPWY). I can play the game without problems, except one : the dark red "boxes" surrounding the forefront window (be it of a list, a decision to make, the ledger, or somthing else that is surrounded by a dark red box) is always displaced to the top left of the window. Every window behind the first one is showing properly, until it becomes on the forefront.

I can play the game even though it is mildly annoying, but the main problem is that sometimes text is attached to that box (especially character / country lists, and the ledger) making the selection of a man for a job quite difficult (I don't know what is the loyalty rating of the general I assign to an army, nor the military, charisma or finesse ratings of the characters I assign as governor). The text does display upside down in the displaced box, but I can't see most of it and I can't move the box (it's as if it wasn't there, wherever I click, I'll select what's behind that box).

I don't know if it is a problem with the game interface (something that was accidentally modified in there) or my computer (last time I had a problem with the game, it was because a bad Windows install caused memory leaks when playing the game). Is there a way to manually modify how and where those dark red boxes appear? Is there a specific DirectX or VC file that affects the display that I could (re)install?

Thanks for the help!

So you didn't get this problem with 2.32, and it appeared with 2.35? If so I don't recall it being a reported issue with 2.35, but you should read through the thread in the Bug Reports forum on 2.35 and see if it's been mentioned - there are certainly various issues with the graphics mentioned there.

Also, you could try deleting the cache; delete all files (but no directories) in the Rome /map/cache/ folder.

I tried the map cache thing, but it didn't solve it. As I said, I'm pretty sure the problem comes from my computer and not the game itself. Unless I can manually modify this aspect of the interface...

I'll look into the Bug Report, thanks!

EDIT : I couldn't find any 2.35 bug thread, apart the CTD one. Do you have a link for me?

Top sticky in this very forum. Also the 2.35 thread in the main Rome forum, it'd be worth reading both.
