Gents,
I'm glad I found this forum. I recently purchased the game but found the documentation somewhat lacking. I have gotten a great deal of info by reading the threads. Thanks for being there! I was suprised to find such an active community since the game is relatively new. I've been playing Panzer General (all versions) for years and they also have a great support group.
My question(s) relate to an error message I have been getting as listed in the header. It seems to have to do with my paratroopers multiplying. Retry and abort were not helpful but ignore let me proceed to play the game. This was my first try (didn't know about the patches) and started from '36 as Germany. I noticed the error beginning around March '43. Again it seem to coincide with para problems, so I just parked the unit and continued. I have logged a ton of hours to get this far and wanted to complete the game before I started over (with a better understanding from the beginning thanks to the forum). So I "ignored" the error and thought I might just work around it, with the only penalty being a dead para unit. Recently, I have had to hit "ignore" more than once (13x, last count) to get the saved game to load. The problem seemed to be getting worse but still playable. I recently invaded Canada and Central America (US and UK are all that are left as opponents) and noticed I could not shift my commanders around. This is a serious problem. The computer basically slows down (very slow and erratic cursor movement) and will not allow replacements of leaders. Has anyone run into these "database mismatches" and found a way to fix???
I did try these things...
Used fix saved game program...which found some errors but not my DM problem.
I had read that patches were backward compatible, so I used 1.05 (my game started at 1.02) but that eliminated the US from play and removed some of my armies.
I've got the 1.04 and 1.05 patches. I can't seem to find the 1.02 patch. I'm not sure which to use. I got the impression to use the 1.05 patch (all emcompassing) but again it changed my game to much for my purposes.
Right now I've gone back to the begiining of the year, before the errors appeared to try again. Any thoughts on a fix without having to go back almost a year?? What happens if it happens again?
Would appreciate any suggestions...Sorry to be so long winded, this is my first post here.
