Gents,

I'm glad I found this forum. I recently purchased the game but found the documentation somewhat lacking. I have gotten a great deal of info by reading the threads. Thanks for being there! I was suprised to find such an active community since the game is relatively new. I've been playing Panzer General (all versions) for years and they also have a great support group.

My question(s) relate to an error message I have been getting as listed in the header. It seems to have to do with my paratroopers multiplying. Retry and abort were not helpful but ignore let me proceed to play the game. This was my first try (didn't know about the patches) and started from '36 as Germany. I noticed the error beginning around March '43. Again it seem to coincide with para problems, so I just parked the unit and continued. I have logged a ton of hours to get this far and wanted to complete the game before I started over (with a better understanding from the beginning thanks to the forum). So I "ignored" the error and thought I might just work around it, with the only penalty being a dead para unit. Recently, I have had to hit "ignore" more than once (13x, last count) to get the saved game to load. The problem seemed to be getting worse but still playable. I recently invaded Canada and Central America (US and UK are all that are left as opponents) and noticed I could not shift my commanders around. This is a serious problem. The computer basically slows down (very slow and erratic cursor movement) and will not allow replacements of leaders. Has anyone run into these "database mismatches" and found a way to fix???

I did try these things...

Used fix saved game program...which found some errors but not my DM problem.

I had read that patches were backward compatible, so I used 1.05 (my game started at 1.02) but that eliminated the US from play and removed some of my armies.

I've got the 1.04 and 1.05 patches. I can't seem to find the 1.02 patch. I'm not sure which to use. I got the impression to use the 1.05 patch (all emcompassing) but again it changed my game to much for my purposes.

Right now I've gone back to the begiining of the year, before the errors appeared to try again. Any thoughts on a fix without having to go back almost a year?? What happens if it happens again?

Would appreciate any suggestions...Sorry to be so long winded, this is my first post here.

Not really sure what you mean by removed USA from play?

You should be using 1.05C

All you need is your original install version from the CD, then install 1.05, then DL the 1.05C tweek pack, and unzip it to the HOI folder, overwriting all files.

You can find the 1.05C link in the sticky threads at the top of this forum.

DM error

C,

Thanks for the prompt response...I'll try it tonight. To answer your question...

From my reading I got the impression that the latest patch (1.05) was backwards compatible as to allow me to continue play with current game although it was recommended to start a new one. As I mentioned, I've logged in so much time, I wanted to finish this first "trial" game. I did run the 1.05 but not the 1.05c because I got the impression that was still a beta.

When I reloaded my last saved game after runnig 1.05 it...

US removed from play...I don't know either....It was just greyed out and empty of units. The ledger screen only showed Germany, UK, partisans and Vichy France. US had been in effect removed from active play. I don't know how else to explain it. Since I was trying to finish the game as it was, I uninstalled HOI and reloaded to try something different. I am willing to give 1.05c a shot. My concern is that it is such an advanced patch, it may change the game parameters too drastically for me to continue as I was (removing the US-my next victim!). I have copied my saved game files elsewhere (they are huge) so I can take two tracks to redemption: 1) Replaying from before the bu....er..."error" and 2) as you suggest 1.05 and then 1.05c. Are you sure there isn't a old "1.02 patch" anymore?

Thanks again

Yes there was a patch, I do not remember which one that would not allow saves from previous versions to work, due to substantial changes.

1.03b added the arrival time to movement orders so earlier saves without that value are completely unusable with later patches (unless you edit the save file to add times to all the moves).

In general while you may be able to play an old save with a new patch I don't think any Paradox patch has been 100% compatible with old saves so you will lose some new features and not all bugfixes will take effect. It is always strongly recommended to start a new game when you install a new patch. In your case there have been so many gameplay changes since 1.02 that I would really scrap the old save. 1.05c is practically a whole new game.

Thanks for the memory back up. :)

I probably refer to the cumulative patch readme thread here almost every day. Mainly for responding to questions rather than for playing the game.

Guess we are even then. :)
