I think that everyone can agree that we would like to get CK3 with as much polish, immersion, detail and flavour as it is possible. I also think that noone is in a hurry to actually play CK3 - full DLC version of CK2 is currently almost perfect and certainly it will be more enjoyable for many people than vanilla CK3.
We (or at least I, dunno how others are going to react to my thread...) won't get angry if CK3 will not release in 2020. Next DLC for EU4 has been heavily postponed and everyone liked that idea. We don't want to get a vanilla title that will give us 20 hours of enjoyment. We want deep game that will allow us to uninstall CK2 :) I would be fine with Q1 or Q2 2021 CK3 release. Just, please, let it include as many great DLC additions from CK2. It cannot be a title like Imperator, where we need to wait one year in order to get a really fun, completed game.
Adopt CDProject Red way of thinking - "we will release our game when it will be ready. Not sooner, not later".

While I agree with the sentiment expressed here, I'm (perhaps unjustifiably) unconcerned about it. Evidently CK3 has been in development for several years already, and much of the content developed for CK2 during that time has surely been done with an eye toward implementation in CK3 as well. Also, Paradox likely has a lot more practical knowledge about what the players expect from CK3 than they had regarding Imperator (the biggest flaw with 1.0 Imperator was an honest misreading of what the fans wanted), and after Imperator's shaky release, they're certain to be extra careful going forward.

My bet is that Paradox feels the same way about CK3's polish that we do, and announced a 2020 release date only once they were confident that they could deliver.

I don't believe that a release with lots of bugs/unfinished content is likely. Much more likely is a misunderstanding of what we (the players) actually want in CK3. But, I am optimistic in that regards as well - it sounds like they are basically building on what CK2 has been doing for the last few years - and that has not exactly been bad:D

I agree but more in the sense of "please don't mistreat your staff". No crunch. No "non-mandatory" mandatory overtime. Fortunately Paradox aren't really known for crunching staff, but it's always good to bring up that ethical game development is important.

Yes, plz, we don't need other Imperator.
Imperator had a much, much shorter development cycle. But the issue with it wasn't a lack of time. The game was made as designed. If they had spent more time on it, it still wouldn't have changed some of the fundamental flaws of the game. They also never promised anything more than what they delivered. The dev diaries showed exactly how the game would be, but people hyped up the game despite that. I knew then that the game isn't what I wanted it to be and didn't get it.
What happened is that the developers took EU:Rome as baseline and considered the game to be on par with that. But audience expectations have changed since then. Instead of comparing it to EU:Rome it was compared to EU4 and CK2. People wanted the national flavor from EU4 and the character interaction from CK2, but that wasn't missing because they didn't have the time for it. They're well aware that new releases are compared with the later PDX games and their DLC.

I guess that if they announced it in 2020, it means they took into account Imperator disaster. I hope so at least.

While I think I:R is a very weak title, for Paradox bottom line its "disaster" was a huge amount of sales. So, what we as the most vocal and militant player base see as a huge disaster, Paradox sees a huge success, amplified by the fact that the users reviews are markedly improving since latest patch (even if the game continues to be a very simple "juggle with the mechanics to expand the most you can, the fastest you can", without anything more to do or to experience)

In light of this I don't believe Paradox is going to delay CK3 by one day, as long as a presentable product is developed (and yes, even if totally uninspired, with very poor design decisions and absolutely lacking what to do besides warfare, I:R was a presentable product at release).

Finally and in my uninformed opinion, I believe the CK3 mantra that it "has been 4 years in the making" is much more about collecting ideas for it than actual software and art development. I would say the true development cycle started in 2019, after HF settle down and not in 2015.

it might have made Huge sales, but its player base died quickly which means less dlc sales

Sure, but there has been a revival of sorts in terms of reviews and players of I:R since latest patch. But lets not derail the thread, this is not about I:R but about CK3. :)

Not really... Before the patch I:R had a average of almost 700 players, less than Vic 2. At release they gathered up to 29k players, but now with the new patch this revival only saw 3k average and now is already down to 1200 average. CKII had an average of 8k til last month.

How about postponing CK3 to like 2025 and releasing a CK style fantasy game and Victoria 3 in the mean time?
Well, i'm really into the idea of a CK3, but the fantasy game idea got me intrigued.
I doubt that Vic3 would happen, but i would love it too.

I remember people, including myself were speculating about the Fantasy game idea, as we thought it is too early for CK3... apparently we were wrong.
