...and I cant figure out how or why...

I went through and deleted all of my mod files, I removed the mods from their folders, removed the mods folder, deleted the entries in the .csv and all that jazz. However, after some looking in the log files and 3-4 total and complete uninstalls from every known location that BT files exist, I see in the output.log file that its STILL trying to load all of my modded files, but failing.

What am I missing and how do I fix it? Where else are files hiding? Its allowing me to start the game and get to the main menu but when I hit 'mechlab' it gives me the 'sit and spin'. The .log file shows how its trying to load all previous mod files, all of my -K1 mech variants and all of my -KR weapon variants, despite them being no where to be found on my PC. I completely removed them and ran some CC cleaner to try and remove any remnant files...

How and why is it trying to load files that are not even a thing? Its literally just making things up right now....

If you have Steam :
  1. Go into the Library
  2. Right click on the left hand side over "BattleTech"
  3. Choose Properties
  4. Go to the Local Files tab (3rd tab)
  5. Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files
  6. Sit back and wait for it to auto-repair
  7. Restart the game
Then add the mods 1 by 1 and see which breaks it.

Ive done that, ive completely reinstalled the game fresh 3-4 times and despite there being absolutely 0 mods at all, its still somehow trying to load my mods in. Ive verified integrity, it goes through and says its fine.

Im not adding mods, I was removing all of mine...

Did you previously did mechLab builds of these? Done any mechlab builds where you subbed in weapons? Had lances saved of your modded Mechs?

Yes, I made saved changes to my modded mechs. My next question is: Where are saved mechlab builds stored so I can delete them!?

Ooh!
I believe the game saves your custom lances and such (some other stuff as well, methinks) in a file called settings_cloud.sav, which you should be able to find at:
...\Steam\userdata\steamid\637090\remote\C0\settings_cloud.sav
steamid is a string of numbers.
That's not where the game is installed, so it could persist an uninstall/reinstall cycle.
(It's one folder 'above' where your campaign save files are kept, in case you were looking.)

It's also has the name "cloud" in it, so maybe Steam went and made a backup of it, and downloads it to your machine whenever you reinstall.
Try disabling cloud saving for Steam, hunt that file down and delete it. (Make a backup, though. Maybe it keeps other important stuff there, too.)

The other way is to reinstate the mod files, using dummies if necessary. Once the game can load, go back into mechlab and delete all the refers to these files.

Ive gone in and deleted that very file lol....somehow it keeps putting my mechs back in it....

Is there an option in Steam to turn off the Cloud Sync?

EDIT:

Try:
  1. Opening Steam
  2. Go to Library
  3. Right Click on BattleTech
  4. Choose Properties
  5. Click on Updates Tab
  6. Unclick bottom check boc for Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for BATTLETECH

Maybe that would do it?

You disabled Steam cloud saves, yes?
If not, try that first.

Hmm, looks like the game stores some stuff over at
[C:]\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\
as well. Nothing I recognise as potentially containing custom lance data, but try mulling around there, too.

Maayyybe also log out of your Paradox account in-game? Maybe that cloudsaves some stuff, too? Really just guessing now.
Otherwise I think Lynx7725 has the right of it.

Is there an option in Steam to turn off the Cloud Sync?
There should be!
In Steam, right click on the title in your library, select properties. Then it should be the last option under the "Updates" tab.

EDIT: There's also a global setting in Steam under View>Settings>Cloud

None of that has done it. I went into each and every one of the mentioned file areas, outright deleted them all, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and somehow, all my mods still think they are in.......

I never logged into my paradox account to begin with...

Did you turn off the sync?

I am at a loss.

Maybe it is an order of operations thing:
  1. Turn off sync
  2. Uninstall game
  3. Delete all local file folders for the game (in all the areas mentioned)
  4. Possibly use Cleansweep to check your registry and clean out any Battletech links
  5. Reboot
  6. Reinstall the game (making sure the cloud sync is still off)

Yeah. Weird.

Can confirm that just deleting settings_cloud.sav with Steam Cloud Save turned off doesn't delete my custom mechs and lances over here either. Thought I had something, and there's certainly some of that stuff in that file, but apparently not.
'course, I didn't do the whole uninstall/reinstall dance, but still. Hmm.

Well, I uninstalled, deleted all the files I could find manually, rebooted and now im reinstalling...again........I dont get it, but I guess I learn my lesson.

Once you mod, dont remove em, game dun like that.....

Well this:
C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/runtime/DebugBindings

is the line my output.log file keeps referencing as far as thinking my modded shit is still in place. This is unreal though, they legit made it so once you mod something, you cant unmod it....cuz if you do, the game thinks your mods are forever implemented......

Best of luck - really hope you come back with good news Sir Cole ;)

Which mod was it that broke things, maybe that can lead us down the right path on fixing it - I am seriously hoping it wasn't one of mine :p

Now, this is interesting.... there is another report of the same error from 08/29/2017 - from Cities: Skylines, which is also a Paradox game.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/255710/discussions/0/1471969431599728588/

Wonder if this is some sort of anti-cheat or paradox 'helper' program.

That being said, there are other instances of mods for other games that give the same alert.

Ever find a solution?
