Today me and 4 others tried to play a multiplayer game we saved from an earlier session. Before 2.4 was released but it was next to impossible due to next to constant desyncs. We turned off cloud saves and dialed back auto saves to annual saving which helped but didn't get rid of the problem. We also reduced the game speed to "normal" which also seemed to help, we normally play on fast so the game were progressing at an unbearable speed so we cranked it back up to fast, which of course caused a desync not many minutes later

My question, Is this a known issue or do you want us to provide more info/logs/saves? Or do you have any advice on how to deal with the desyncs? Or at least keep them at bay?

Hi,

Me and my friends are having similar issues, mainly as a result from one of the players using a mac, we also play on normal speed to try and cause less desyncs and our most common one is notification_eventID or something close to that, usual you can ignore that one and continue fine but the mac player started to ctd consistently whenever it appeared as we got later into the game (it's a really high end mac with no issues solo).

Playing on normal speed tends to push it to 1 ctd every 2 hours but now we've started getting "pop_modifiers" desync's at random as ai empires want to create a dozen variants of one species and whenever a new one a created the game ctd, or recently a robot uprising happened and it ctd, so one of us hilariously started to use the planet cracker to reduce pops hah.

To combat this all we've done is put the mac player on a low end windows laptop which isn't really a solution tbh as we need to wait for the laptop to catch up to the other players which feels like we're just playing on slow.

Sorry I cant be more helpful, hopefully the devs can figure something out before the federation dlc drops.

Edit: From what other people are saying the Mac system isn't the problem and this persists over Windows only games also.

We have been playing a multiplayer game over the course of the last few weeks. We are in year 2350ish and we are getting disconnects only when we play on fast. There are only 3 of us, and its usually just a quick pause and we can continue. The issues come when players can no longer give orders to certain ships. When this arises the only option is to reload that player back into the game.

Also getting more desyncs in 2.4/2.5 than we did in 2.3. At first we assumed it's just some bad luck. We did get an occasional desync in 2.3 too. But in 2.4 and 2.5 this is like 10 times more often.
We all play on Windows. Although we play a crossbranch between steam and gog. But i don't think it should affect anything.

Me and a couple friends are also getting desync's every 5-20 minutes, the usual one is Pop_Modifier desync; we've tried verifying the game cache, deleting the launcher .cache files, restarting the actual game across all clients (host included), nothing seems to fix it. This seems to be happening only after the Lithoids DLC was released..

Just want to throw in another "me too". Been playing a lot since 1.0 coop with a friend (I host, have a slightly beefier machine and gigabit internet on my end), we usually play with a TON of mods but started having issues after updated to 2.4. Tried a 2.5 game, on a smaller map (600 stars), with much fewer mods (mostly UI/helper type mods) and ran into a lot of desyncs and towards the late game (140 years in) we had to give up.

The only thing to note is that desyncs seem to happen when he falls behind a lot (that is, his date stays in the red for any length of time when you look at the tooltip over the game speed). We had early game desyncs and dropped the speed to 2 and it was better for awhile... Then had to drop the speed to 1 and it was better for awhile again... Probably could have gone to slow to avoid late game desyncs for a bit longer but that is a bit painful to play.

Note that we had issues on both the main branch and stellaris_test so it's not just steam vs paradox multiplayer server issues. Something /definitely/ changed in 2.4, either an increase in network activity that causes him to fall behind or more computations that are pushing his machine past some line, I dunno which but I'm hoping this gets looked into for the next patch... As mentioned, been playing since 1.0 and haven't had issues close to this bad before. >_<

Can't even continue our unmodded playthrough. The year is 2423 and the game goes out of sync instantly as soon as we unpause. Tried every fix and combination of hosts/fixes.

2.4.1 till 2.5.0 is basically broken in MP now. We have given up the game for now, until paradox actually do address these problems. POP_MOD and other variations we never seen before still spawn.

Jep, same here .. desync on POP_Modifier (among others) instantly kills a game 3 days / 150 years in. Never had desyncs this frequently and we've played every patch since release.

Yeah ive had similar issues with the ctd from presumably desyncs occuring as the host of games on my mac, interestingly theres no crash report that follows up, when others take the save file and host on their windows the same crash behavior happens. Fingers crossed this is sorted out soon, it has basically prevented our group from finishing the end game for the last few months.

Same here. 2x player MP. Year ~2350.
Most races have now been discovered. That's when the de-syncs started happening. The player sync date didn't help as had a desync with both dates in the green but only one of us saw the war we were in. Sorry but the game is currently MP broken.

What happened in v2.5 with the ability to connect and join with friends from the main menu? That was a really cool feature, more useful, I think, than the resume button on the new launcher.

It has been 3 weeks since lithoids and they have not fixed the desyncs, just done one hotfix.
I hope next week there's a patch on these issues...

It would be nice to know if it is being worked on at least. Has anyone seen a response from devs over the desync issues? I try and check every few days but haven't seen anything, so maybe I missed it?
Was really enjoying my game with my brother and we can't continue it until the desync bug is stamped out.

This is honestly the worst part about the Stellaris team at the moment, the lack of communication leads people to assume that they're being ignored, I wish the Stellaris twitter account would be serious for a change and state that these issues are known and are being worked on instead of posting memes all day.

Since Wiz left I don't see much interaction at all, it's possibly there's a mandate to not engage that much anymore. I miss Wiz teasers on twitter

Yup same here. Me and my friend have been playing stellaris for a long time now and it worked perfectly up until about a year ago. The game always desyncs by exactly 3 days and refuses to resync. This happens between a few months and a few years into the game which translates to about 15min of gameplay at the most. We've tried multiple versions, modded and vanilla but nothing works. Ofcourse paradox being paradox (aka. useless) they won't do anything about it, instead they'll just continue to milk the community with unfinished games and overpriced DLCs.

Fortunately we managed to fix it by connecting through hamachi
