Now that Paradox have released the 2.6.3 patch we too will soon be releasing an update to the mod before the next major patch and DLC arrive.

Fear
One of the big issues CK2 always had was there was no way of representing fear in a good way. If someone is cruel and ruthless killer you are going to dislike them, as represented by the opinions in game, but also be scared to act against them, something not really represented in game. To rectify this characters have a new variable assigned to them, Fear.
A higher fear makes your vassals less likely to join hostile factions and less likely to side against you in a mega war.

Your total Fear is made up of traits, actions and other factors which contribute to a fear score for each ruler, the higher the fear the less likely most vassals are to join faction. As a variable cannot directly be represented in game each character who has a fear of 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 receive a character modifier called Respected, Intimidating, Feared, Formidable and Terrifying respectively.

Each year your fear caused by actions decays to be 80% of what it was before however your fear caused by your actions can never be less than -50. Your fear is then calculated based on a your fear by actions and a number of factors I will list below but they key being a handful of traits, the strength of your dragon if you have one, prestige and time ruled.

All the factors:
Fear is calculated by the following formula:
Fear = (Fear Actions * 0.8) + Sum(Fear Factors)
Where (Fear Actions * 0.8) cannot be less than -50

Fear Actions:
  • Wining war/rebellion : +10
  • Losing war/rebellion : -20
  • Conceding to faction : -15
  • Executing vassal : +10
  • Executing vassal relative : +5
  • Torturing vassal : +5
  • Torturing vassal relative : +2
  • Enslave vassal relative : +2
  • Pardon/release vassal : -5
  • Unjustly imprison vassal: +5

Fear Factors:
  • Ruthless +20
  • Honourable -20
  • Cruel +20
  • Kind -20
  • Torturer +20
  • Dragon +5 for any level, +10 for 20 martial dragon and +15 for every 20 up to 100 martial
  • Prestige +2 for 500 prestige and 5 for every prestige level reached of 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000. -5 for less than 100 prestige and a -10 for less than 0 prestige.
  • Ruled years +5 for each of 15, 20 and 25 years ruled and -5 for each of less than 5 and 2 years ruled.

Family
One of the much loved systems in Westeros is the cadet dynasty system, being able to give your worthy bastard a cadet dynasty with a unique name and coat of arms... well if you were one of 10 dynasties that was. Everyone else had to have a generic one.
Now however another 75 dynasties can give unique coats of arms (created a long time ago by Rabid Bogling) and unique name. In general the new dynasties this is available to are the direct vassals of the LPs. Unfortunately other dynasties still have to use the generic one unless one of you decide to make a bunch of coats of arms for us ;)

These new dynasties are made even better as the cadet system has received a massive overhaul under the hood so now all cadets both created in game and those in lore use the same system. This means that they all function the same and can all be legitimised. Due to the system being expanded the Wensingtons, Bollings, Oldflowers and pre-Stormlands Baratheons have been added as canon cadet dynasties in the same way the Karstarks and Gulltown Arryns are.
Cadet dynasties can now be granted to brothers as well as your own bastards in a way to reward a loyal sibling. The legitimisation of cadets is now done through a targeted decisions as shown below.

The fear system sounds awesome, and I'm excited for the cadet dynasties being expanded on.

I've seen a lot of talks over how cool would it be to have a fear system, and now it has an implementation. Cadet dynasties look rad too, great work here, can't wait to play it.

Sweet!

Seeing as the Cadet updates are very interesting, I have a request for your Bloodlines mod. It would be swell if the Cadet dynasties of the bloodline dynasties also inherited the bloodlines, just like Karstark already gets the Stark bloodline. I mean, if it's a well known cadet of one of the great houses I don't see why they wouldn't also get the traits, especially as there are already some houses who do get them. You've probably heard the request before, but hey, I can hope right?

As for the changes to the base mod, looks great.

I already mentioned it in thread on Citadel, but could Targaryen cadet houses be legitimate High Valyrian dynasties with coin flip mechanics and traditional claims just like Blackfyres? When you play with dragons, there really is no point in trying to cause huge mess from creating tons of cadet branches, when none of them get strong claims and can´t ride dragons.

Please God, give me this update soon! The fear system is going to be amazing! No more will my subjects revolt agianst me when I just conquered the whole continent with DRAGONS. Also, I hope simply having a dragon adds to the fear factor.

Having dragons does indeed increase fear. However I would point out that fear isn't intended to eliminate factions entirely, rather make membership of them less likely. So dont expect to be able to behave like the worst tyrant ever and get away with it.

Oh, I know. It's just good to know that a lord I spared won't be as keen in joining a counsel power faction only 5 years after I destroyed him with 1k troops and three dragons.

Also, any idea on a release date? :p
