Just asking here because I haven't played vanilla in...years.

I've been playing Jorvik and I've reformed Nordic into Forn Sidhr. I have 100% moral authority; Old Nordic has 0 and Chalcedonian is down to ~50. But it's taking me forever to convert even one province. I've had a 23 learning court chaplain sitting on an Old Nordic province for twenty years with ~10% conversion chance and it still is Old Nordic (the vassal controlling it also follows the one true faith). It's even worse with the Christian provinces, which have ~3% conversion chance.

Am I going crazy or did these rates get nerfed? I'm not complaining; I'm just curious. I also did check to make sure I have "Normal" conversion speeds enabled in the game rules, so I know it's not that. Thanks for the help, guys!

Please don't open new threads for questions like these. There's a *dedicated* questions thread. It's pinned. It's in my signature. It's everywhere

Conversion in this game doesn't work like EU4...... you could spend a century trying to convert a province without any success even if you've a 10% chance, because it doesn't gradually convert like in EU4, it's really stupid.

Higher learning and picking the ambition both increase your odds a lot too. Regardless, RNG is RNG

I think it also partly depends on whether it's your own demesne you are trying to convert, and the culture of the province and your court chaplain. 10 percent seems to be rather low for your situation though.

I feel like there should be some decisions to help along conversions. Something that allows you to 'persecute' opposed religions at the cost of county prosperity and a big increase in the chance for religious uprising.

What about an Intrigue decision titled 'Accelerate Religious Conversion' that is only available when you have 'Convert a County' ambition and opens an event that gives you these options:
1) Attempt to pay people to convert or leave: gain less or even no income from a province you are trying to convert until it does, +3% chance of uprising in that province, reduce prosperity of target county. If the county is held by your vassal you get a significant negative relation modifier for interfering. +10% Conversion rate for your chaplain.
2) Persecute religious majority: +50% Chance of uprising in targeted county, reduce prosperity of target province, +10 Tyranny, +10% uprising chance globally for all provinces with that religious group. If vassal own targeted province, large negative relation modifier. +30% conversion chance for your chaplain.
3) (High learning option) Directly help chaplain in conversion: Uses your own traits to affect chance to convert. Having Positive religious traits (zealot, patient, etc.) adds percentage points (let's say 3% each), having negative religious traits (gluttony, lustful, etc.) reduces percentage points. Certain traits have a larger effect (Pilgrim or Crusader adds +5%, Possessed gives -10%, etc.) This option only helps if you actually are pious, otherwise you only hurt your cause.

If people like this idea I'll refine it and add it to the suggestion thread.
