Hi all,

I'm new to EU: Rome after having played CK and EU2 for a number of years. I wanted to get in the thick (or thin) of modding it a bit, trying to play as a country in Hibernia. I've been having difficulty getting my little homemade mod working correctly. I've downloaded a couple of the bigger mods (Lofman's and Magna Terra) and tinkered a bit with how they work, and followed Strager's guide for making a country in EU3 (http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=281737), but my mod always seems to crash the game in the "Creating World" loading phase. I've stripped the mod down to only the files/folders I have edited at all, but I can't seem to bring it down to a level that will load the game. Does anyone have any advice as to what I might be missing, or have time to look at my mod and see where I'm going wrong?

Thanks much!

You did everything right, and I tested it and it works:

So maybe you messed up with Rome's original files? I suggest to reinstall it.

That worked like a charm, many thanks.

Another question, more about playability and perhaps more subjective: I'm considering modding it to make more of Ireland playable (and thus, not barbarians) as well, in terms of balance/playability/design should I leave some uncolonized territories? Edit: To be more specific, what are the general pros and cons of having more playable factions by you as opposed to uncolonized territory?

Country provinces are possible to be annexed by tribal countries, but barbarian ones are almost impossible or takes a huge amout of time (as tribal countries generally have civilization in provinces way less than 50% so that they can't colonise). Also, colonisation is a slower expansion for big countries like Rome. So barbarian provinces slow down expansions of territory, and country ones increase it. So having a strip of barbarian provinces north of Rome lets gaulic tribes to breathe, but I think there should be more tribes in North Gaul so that tribal countries can grow by annexing each other and so offer a bigger resistance to Rome.
