Because of the hurricane that hit the east coast of the USA, I have been without electric, heat and water since 21 hours Monday. We are told it could be as long Sunday or Monday until power is restored - and since we live "out in the sticks" - I'm sure it will be closer to Monday then not.
Only damage to our property is one of our 80 foot trees uprooted and fell over. It landed on our van and truck. Both vehicles seem to be without damage though (somehow) - but they are unmoveable until the tree can be cut away.

So my aGoD friends, it looks like I will be away from the game and the forum for a bit. I hope to jump on the forum if and when I'm at work though. But I hope someone will take care of my Dwarves until I can get back to them.
:)

Sorry to hear that you were hit by the storm. I hope that you have at least a wood burning fireplace to keep your home warm. i remember when I lived in the mountains and our power was cut due to an unusual heavy storm and was not restored for almost 4 days. Everything in the fridgerator was burried out in the snow to keep it frozen, and we ran through a tremendous amount of wood that we had bought earlier that year since we could not augment the fireplace heat with electric heat (we didn't have propane at the time). In my really old house, we had to run that fireplace 24 hours a day and almost burned through half of our winter wood in just those 4 days constantly keeping the fireplace burning.

It's hard for many people to understand that when the electrics get cut off you are helpless pretty much and how much we actually depend on electrics. Where we live now it often hits 121°f during the summer months and that puts a huge load on the electrics company locally to where we sometimes get blackouts for hours on end, it wouldn't be so bad for us here if this happened in the winter months as we'd just put on a jacket as our winter temps are usually above 40°f but during the hot summer that means the inside of the house goes up to 90°f or above in just a few hours, then when the electrics come back on it takes like 6 hours or more to cool the place back off. It's a terrible thing being without electrics, especially if like you and you may have to go for days on end.

Stay safe and warm.

Good to hear you made it fairly unscathed so far. Warm thoughts from peaceful Denmark.

Glad to hear there's no severe damage over at your place! I wish you and your family all the best and hope everything gets sorted soon. :)

Greetings and all the best wishes from all the dwarves of germany! ;)

Glad to hear your ok Xerkis! Take the moment and learn the kids some old fashion board-games ;)!

Yeah absolutely City Builder. Specially if you live in a city and your whole water-supply is connected to having electricity.

Thanks.
It obviously could have been much worst. And has been for some in the area.

We live out in no mans land and our family loves to go camping (in tents) – so we have sub-zero sleeping bags for warmth and gas camping stove to cook on and lots of water stored up in containers. So we will be fine. Plus anyone within hearing of a chainsaw will be running over with theirs to help out. So that tree will be gone in no time.
And games by candle light is the way of it. You name it, I think we have played it.
I don’t mind these times like this, it give you and the family a chance to remember what you have and what it’s like to not have it.

I’m obviously at work – where there is power and internet – so I can at least catch up on the forum here.
;)

I remember, with complete horror, the three days when I didn't have internet -- when we had water in the wall, five or so years back, and it short-circuited. I think that was the first time I had not been able to go online since the mid 1980s, and I felt completely crippled. Can't imagine what it's like without electricity for a whole week. I'm glad you're all right, though, and that those cars must have had a guardian angel! :) Those dwarves will however miss you and probably throw a party when their overlord returns!

Been there done that. Hurricane Fran, 1996, North Carolina. No power or running water at my house for 8 days. I subsisted on bottled water, pork and beans, vienna sausages, anything I could scrounge at the only convenient store open in my neighborhood for a couple of days and finally ended up staying with friends out of town for the remainder. I didn't drive there, though, because my car had been crushed by a huge oak. And none of them could get to me because the roadways were so messed up. Downed trees and power lines everywhere.

We're kind of used to the big autumn storms down here in the southeast, but man, that one was a nightmare. Glad Sandy blew over without causing too much trouble for you, Xerkis. My GF has been up in Mass visiting family through the whole thing, and boy is she anxious to get home.
