Diplo Annexing Question

I can't seem to find my manual at the moment, and I wanted to check on something. Can you diplomatically annex a nation that is a different religion than your own? Somehow I don't think so, but I'd really like to consummate my relationship with Mysore, so to speak.

I believe that you have to be the same religion. Don't forget to annex, you have to have a royal marriage, which cannot happen between pagan and Christian states....
