Playing Sibir, I beat Astrachan several times which gave me access to their maps. To prepare for the inevitable Russian onslaught I tried to enter the alliance of Turkey, Crimea and Algiers. I had good relations with them and royal marriages. But in the diplomacy screen the option to enter their alliance was never highlighted. Why that? I had it highlighted with foes like Russia, Astrachan and Persia! (And I wasn´t member of any alliance up till now, of course.)

P.S.: Because of this in the end I had to face Russia alone. They gobbled up most of my newly accquired western territories (Volgograd and Uralsk) at fast speed and I was only able to stop them through constant guerilla- and winterwarefare at Orenburg. But if no miracle occurs (i.e. Poland or Sweden declaring war on Russia) I will be doomed in the long run...

You have to talk to the leader of the alliance and ask them very nicely to let you in.

But this would mean that Algiers has to be the leader of this alliance (it´s the only nation in this alliance I haven´t got contact with). Could this be? How can I check it? I thought, Turkey would be the 'natural' leader of this particular alliance...

Look in the ledger on the alliances page.
Seems to me that the first country mentioned for each alliance is the leader of that alliance.

greetings, Oranje

Thanks, Oranje! I checked it in the ledger and in fact Algiers was the leader of this alliance. So no bug :)!

By the way: In my game the desperately needed miracle occured. Just when I was about to loose all, Poland declared war on Russia and the Russians moved their troops to the West so I could recapture my lost provinces. Just when Russia and Poland settled a peace treaty, the alliance of Turkey, Crimea and Algiers declared war on Russia. While the Russians were busy fending off a 100k turkish army I could capture Samara and Kubytschew. Now I´m totally exhausted after many years of war and the first rebellion sprang up far away in east Siberia. Time to settle for five years of peace with a one-province-gain now! :)
