Hi,

Does anybody know what factors influence a minor nations decision to agree to, or decline, a diplomatic annexation?

I play France in the Grand Campaign and quickly proposed Lothringen to join my glorious nation. A few years latter I tried the same with Savoy, and they refused 3 or 4 times before finally seeing the errors of their way. In both cases I of course had a +200 relationship with the minor nation.

Now, Savoy had managed to snatch a province from Toscana, and were stronger than Lothringen. Are strong minor nations simply more difficult to annex? So annexing the Papal States with 5 or 6 provinces would be next to impossible?
Or is it because I recently annexed Lothringen, and there's simply a limit to the number of nations that can be annexed per decade or so?

Regards,

Emperor of Europe (or France at least)

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

As far as I know relations to the country you want to annex diplomaticly must be +190, the country has to be your vassal for at least 10 years and I think you need the same state religion and a common border. I've also heard that nations tend to accept annexation more likely if their stability is down.

My relationship with both was +200, I had a common border with them and the same state religion. Maybe Savoy simply had a much higher stability?

E.

Playing as Thuringen, I managed to diplomatically annex most of Europe (Brandenburg, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Portugal, most of Italy...). Papal States, France, Spain and the Knights refused, althoug I had +200 with them for ages.

Let me guess: You couldn't get the Papal States to agree to a royal marriage? At least that's what I'm experiencing right now playing France. I've got the best of relations with them, but the Pope still refuses to get married. Darn, guess I've got unleash the might of the French armies :D

The Emperor
