What will happen when we'll have to disband an army? Will the army simply disappear without any kind of effect, or will the province in which the disbanding occurs suffer pillaging and a decrease of population (caused by the exactions of the soldiers turned into itinerant brigands)?

That (the idleness of the soldiers) would be a nice addition to the game. :)

There have been people arguing (mostly in the EU II forum) for tha population to increase if an army is disbanded in a province. So looks like a good compromise would be to leave things alone.

(Although a lot of the free companies in the 100 years war were exactly that - disbanded armies.):)

Yes, disbanded armies should lead to a baby boom.:D

Well the population in the area should increase (well the original province they came from acutally, but that would be hard to keep tabs on if we allow merging....well maybe not...if we just use a percentage system. But those provines should get a latent increase (following month), while pillaging should happen in the province they were disbanded in.

Although if the province they originated in is now owned by an enemy, it could increase elsewhere.

IMO no matter what, recruiting/disbanding should directly affect population levels.

naw, the province the army is disbanded in should get an automatic Population increase, exactly the size of the Disbanded Army. :)

I can see it:
London a metropolis in the 1200s! :D
Wales down at 0 population after massive build up('cause the population has to be taken from somewhere, right?:D )

;)

Only if population numbers are kept for a province - otherwise I would say if it is like EU and only the major city population is tracked, then no.:)

But just imagine all the gamey crap people would come up with for that. Abuse that system for quick population transfer frx. It's not even particularly realistic - soldiers would 99% of the time make their way back to their place of origin.

The original poster was right. There should be a cost to disband (pay off) certain unit types and all mercenaries, quite a high one. If you decline to pay it, there's a risk the disenchanted grunts wreck the province (again, you can see how this could be exploited - sending your condottieri to Finnmark to disband or die thru attrition etc... hmmm). There's a smaller risk the mercs become a rogue (rebel) Free Company and start wrecking everything in sight.

I agree that's why i generally say they should keep their province of origin in the unit and a percentage system for merged units. I could see a small population increase for the disbanding province (1% of whatever was disbanded) for the few people who say, forget it...i'm using this chance to get away from my home, but not enough to make it worth recruiting troops, moving them, then disbanding to move population.

Well many things can be exploited...after a war, disband your army in the former enemies provine so that they'll sack it on there way out.

Even in that case i'd say 10% should be subtracted from the population.

Yup recrutin to many soldiers should in a more dramatic way decrease your economic ability, it is a large problem with the EU engine IMHO

Gentlemen...Why does the Army disband?

Because...the men must go home and care for their crops...

Thus...

They go home to their home province and disband...That's where the population go up.:)

Thanks for clearing up, Greven!:)

Hmm, does it mean we will have provincial populations in CK?

Hey, Plzno province population is vastly underestimated! it should be at least twice current size!*

*just complaining in advance:D
