Since I have yet to see a thread on this topic I figured I'd post one.

What sort of divisions do you think we'll see on release? So far we know we'll have 18 divisions from 6 different nations, and the 101st Airborne and 12th SS Panzer are confirmed, what else do you think will round out the roster?

My predictions:

- US 2nd or 4th Armored
- US 1st or 2nd Infantry
- POL 1st Armored
- UK 1st Airborne
- FR 2nd Armored
- UK 7th Armored
- GER Panzer Lehr

I suspect UK might be the UK 6th Airborne division, according to screenshots etc, also I still aint seen anything saying the 1st airborne used tanks, but the 6th did.

I think the Allied Side will be
  • US Armored Division (not sure which)
  • US Infantry Division (not sure which but probably the 1st)
  • 101st US Airborne Division
  • British Armored Division (not sure which but probably the 7th)
  • British Infantry Division (likely the 15th (Scottish) Division)
  • British AIrborne Division (probably 6th Airborne)
  • 3rd Canadian Infantry Division
  • 1st Polish Armored Division
  • 2nd French Armored Division

German side
  • 21st Panzer Division
  • Panzergrenadier Division (who knows which)
  • Infantry Division
  • Static Defense Division
  • 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitlerjugend)
  • 17th SS Mechanized Division Götz von Berlichingen ? (The 17th SS was in Normandy. Interestingly, a regiment of the 5th Fallshirmjager Division was attached to the 17th, so we might see Fallschirmjager units deployed alongside this division's units in one deck)
  • 2nd Fallshirmjager Division
  • Either Panzer-Lehr, 2nd SS 'Das Reich', or 1st LSSAH Division, in order of likelihood.
  • Possibly some amalgation of foreign 'volunteer' soldiers, interned Italians who decided to fight for Germany, and such?

It's my understanding that there will be as many German divisions as all the allied divisions together. Sky's the limit with them. MadMat's confirmed/hinted at a lot but that still doesn't cover it.

One of the preview articles (or was it a forum post?) mentioned that the Scots have a dedicated division, so perhaps it's the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division

There was only one Panzergrenadier Division, as you found out the 17. SS PzGren Div, so if we get one than it has to be the "Lick my Axx" Division :D
The Fallschirmjäger Regiment later fighting alongside of the 17. SS was the Fallschirmjäger Regiment 6, originaly from the 2. Fallschirmjäger-Division but at D-Day attached to the German 91. Luft-Lande (Air-Landing) Division. Personaly i hope the Regiment gets into the game with its own deck since the Regiment was very unique in several ways. Maybe if it gets beefed up with the Fallschirm Sturmgeschütz Abteilung 12 and/or the Fallschirm Aufklärungs Abteilung 12.......one can dream.
As i said in another thread there were sadly no "pure" Italian units in the normandy but several divisions had a surprisingly high number of Italian volunteers.

Presumably a great deal of these units are relatively homogeneous (with a few exceptions) so I would imagine the real work would be tweaking the OOB and making sure everyone had the right experience etc.

@Andyana It just might be the 51st Highlanders, given their being on the receiving end of famous actions like Villers-Bocage etc. Not sure I'd fancy playing them given their reputation though. :(

My predictions:

- US 1st or 2nd Infantry
- POL 1st Armored
- UK 1st Airborne
- FR 2nd Armored
- UK 7th Armored

The 4th Armored is unlikely, if only because 3rd Armored was more famous in Normandy and they will inevitably be the star unit in any DLC or expansion that features the Lorraine Campaign.

US 2nd Infantry is also not the best-known. The two best-known are actually the 1st and the 29th, the latter benefiting from many histories written on it.

UK 1st Airborne wasn't in Normandy. It was the 6th which landed. The 1st Airborne is more famous, but their martyrdom came at Arnhem.

Two Divisions also not mentioned yet anywhere in the thread - the German 352nd and the 3rd Fallschirmjaeger, both of which were primarily responsible for contesting the US advance to St Lo until early July. The 352nd also had a battlegroup sent against the British in Gold Beach, which was ultimately wiped out fighting the 50th Northumbrian.

I need the 21. PD and its 1940s tanks :p

PzLehr is IMO set:
1. It is pretty much the Archetype of the Wehrmacht-Myth
2. It had Tiger II in low numbers, which are AFAIK confirmed and thus allows a restriction on them without having to implement a Heavy-Tank-Batallion
(you could compare it to the M22 Locust)
3. It participated in the major battles in Normandy
4. It is one of the most famous if not even the most famous Wehrmacht-Division during Normandy
5. It was one of the few true German "Elite"-Divisions in Normandy

Otherwise Fallschirmjäger are also pretty much set.

My guess for German divisions:
709th Infantry Division (Static)
352nd Infantry Division
91st Air Landing Division
3rd Fallschirmjäger Division
17th SS Panzergrenadier Division Götz von Berlichingen
21st Panzer Division
12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend
Panzer Lehr Division
1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler
