Hello

so what possible DLCs can be brought out while keeping the western front in view..

i am thinking about two which will come in

1. Market Garden focused
2. Arnhem focused

it keeps the same factions around but adds some more divisions and maps to the game.

(Personally i would like to see a DLC focused on barbarossa so that we can have the russians)

PS. i am not in favour of paid DLC content but then again we have to kind of accept that this is something that will come

Ardennenoffensive (or Battle of the Bulge) - DLC campaign with free maps for MP

Edit: Its late '44 and the terrain is very hilly which makes for a different mapstyle, very intresting. Also much forest.

I know it's not part of the Western Front but;
In summer 1944 USSR launched an offensive against Finland which's target was Helsinki (Battle of Tali-Ihantala) which the Finns repelled and resulted in the end of Finnish co-belligrence in Axis and keeping their independence.

Would be nice to see the Wargame: Red Dragon's Finnish sturmi in this game.

Well, I do think we can expect more DLCs and frankly I think Market Garden would be too limited compared with Normandy 44, can't add too much compared with what would be already in the game. Also I think the gliders we've seen hints that at some point we will see a Market Garden DLC for sure, same with Ardennes...I don't mind just I played these campaigns so much time in Close Combat.

I am looking forward for the following DLCs which will also add new divisions/nations:

- Afrika Korps vs 8th Army
- Barbarossa
- Stalingrad
- Zitadelle/Kutuzov
- Russia 44
- Italy 43

If you talk about western front, i'd like to see landing in southern France and fighting for Italy. But about the thing i want most overall - it's the unthinkable, of course.

Operation Bagration was a massive Soviet offensive on the Eastern Front which was launched in conjunction with Operation Overlord on June 6th 1944. Makes perfect sense for the Eastern Front Expansion.

Having another expansion covering the Italian campaign from Sicily to the Liberation of Rome in June 1944 would make sense. It would add in Italy as well as bring in some slightly older units for both sides, while still ending around the same time period as Normandy

France 1940 would be great. We have the UK, France and Germany as 3 unique nations. Add in 1939 Poland and 1939-1940 USSR to round out the factions. Poland is easily competitive in most aspects for a 1939 game(except in its airforce)

I would leave something as big as eastern front not for a mere DLC, but a full sequel, but Ardennes Offensive or Italy'43 would be a great material for interesting and varied maps.

I would hope for things not commonly covered like:

North Africa
Italy\Sicily\Crete
Pacific
Early War France\Belgium and Norway

Sick of Russia and Normandy really. But can certainly handle them to play this game.

the reason i said Market garden was because it would be comparatively easy to pull off (already some divisions in place, maps can be made similar due to terrain) and it can be one of those smaller DLC which keeps the game interesting and does not cost super high.

the others which you mentioned would require quite a lot of work.

North africa and pacific would be a beauty..more nations getting engaged and the terrain would give in a nice tough

I guess WW2 is a relatively simple subject in the sense that, we already know the major events and fronts, so we're only left to guess the order of appearance and what the emphasis would be. Anyhow, my two cents:

  1. Market Garden - easy to make, could serve as an interim-DLC to maintain hype. Because of the visual similarity to Normandy, it would have to include something new, gamemodes, etc, or new stuff for 101st Airborne and 6th Para players.
  2. Italy - a very underplayed front in the ETO. The terrain would be vastly different from Normandy and the Low Countries, and small mountain passes could be made to favor infantry combat. Perhaps Fallschirmjägers and Gebirgsjägers (both 1st Parachute Division and 8th Mountain Division fought in Italy) for the Germans? And Italy, obviously. Allies don't get a lot of new stuff.
  3. North Africa - again, would be a completely different environment to play in, and a very iconic one at that, with Monty vs. Rommel, Desert Rats vs. Afrika Korps. The War without Hate. However, would be mostly a re-texture of old models, as the stuff they used is mostly there already. We could see Italians play a major role (as they did in real life), as well as Aussies and Kiwis. Probably another interim-DLC to keep money flowing.
  4. Eastern Front - eventually, if this game succeeds, it has to go there, it's a massive part of WW2 and arguably "the end-game" of Hitler's plans. Allies would also gain a new nation in the form of USSR, with a lot of unique equipment, so they don't all look alike (though the downside is having to see USSR in Normandy maps, I guess). Axis can be thrown a bone here in the form of the minor nations, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Baltic volunteers, etc. who all have some interesting unique equipment, and their own strengths. A completely wild one would be the Spanish "Blue Division" volunteers, which gets very little screen-time.
  5. I don't think the Pacific War will be a DLC showing the traditional, US. vs. the World view, or it will be difficult to pull off. The Pacific Theater was mostly fought and decided on the sea, while the land battles were fought on tiny patches of land with limited troops to seize airfields to bomb Japan to submission, and often ended up as massive meatgrinders as the Japanese refused to surrender. It could be fun for a map or two for the iconic battles (Iwo Jima, Okinawa, maybe Guadalcanal as a game of Allied defending territory against the attacking Japanese), not for a whole DLC.
  6. However, the initial engagements in South East Asia could be an interesting change of pace: China, Singapore, Philippines, New Guinea, India. We could see the Commonwealth play a major role here, as the Australians, Kiwis and Indians all had a part to play (for obvious reasons). China could also be a new, unplayed card on the game market. As I recall, the Germans trained some of their divisions and they fared rather well in battle?

I know that some people will pitch a fit if they see Soviets in Normandy (the same people who unironically complain about Norway or Yugoslavia fighting in Korea), I personally think that it would add some interesting variation for multiplayer (it's almost as if the single player can be the "story" while the multiplayer can be just for fun).

Yeah, I don't have a massive problem with it, but I know some will. If the game has a co-op campaign (which it hopefully will, this is a good place to implement it as the invasion of Normandy had two sectors, and multiple divisions fighting on both sides), it'll probably balance that issue though.

Not really reskins, the vast majority of equipment used in the desert war was no longer used by the british at least later on, as for Germany, the only real reskins would be infantry, panzer 4s, anti tank guns. What you miss here are panzer 2/3, italian kit, cruisers 3/4, vickers light tanks, crusaders, matildas, valentines, grants, so on so forth. The majority of the kit from this front simply no longer was used later on, even the shermans from here were mostly replaced.

It would be able to however press for other fronts such as greece/France 1940, as these would then be used there.

There are lots of possible scenarios. If towed weapon and infantry combat is quite fleshed out, literally anything in WWII is open for an expansion. My personal hope is for (at some point):

- France, 1940
- North Africa
- Something in the CBI theatre. Perhaps Burma 1942 or 1944-45. It would open the possibility to introduce Chinese, British Indian, UK, etc. divisions. Interesting stuff. The Chinese theatre has a lot of room for interesting scenarios. Shanghai, 1937 or Ichigo, 1944 would both be cool to see.
- Something in the PTO.

Introduce naval with the last great naval battle with some parity, The Battle of the Phillippine Sea, and also the largest naval battle in history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

Iwo Jima and Okinawa as the '45 DLC

THE EMPEROR DEMANDS IT!

I stand corrected then. I was thinking that if Italy '43 came first as DLC, there would be fewer new models to make for a North Africa '41/'42. Although I did completely forget Greece, that's a good catch. An Italy/Greece focused campaign would indeed be nice.
