Hey guys!

If you like using DLSS in CS2 ( I use highest quality setting) but dont want to have the typical ghosting effect (especially cars having trails) then you might want to switch to another DLSS version.

You can do this easily with DLSS swapper. With that application you can download and swap different versions of the .dll thats in the main CS2 directory.
My Game was using version 3.1.1 and it had the ghosting effect. After a bit of research I found out that version 2.5.1 doesnt have the ghosting, it's completely gone and fixed for me!

Of course it's an older versoin of DLSS, but I haven't noticed a difference in picture quality or FPS performance.
That older version is okay for me because I only have a 30 series card, and as far as I know, DLSS 3.0 and up is not supported by the 30 series. Even though it runs the game with 3.0 and up, I guess it just doesn't use the new functions which are not supportef by my card, backward compatible so to say.

There's another option to play around with different versions and especially so called presets of DLSS, but this needs DLSSTweaks application and it's a bit more complicated to use than the easy to use DLSS Swapper.

If anyone finds newer versions, especially with different presets, that work without ghosting, I'd be happy, if you share it here!

Best regards

Thank you for finding a DLSS version that produces better Image quality (no or reduced ghosting).

I want to correct one thing in your message (the quoted part):

The version of DLSS doesn't determine compatibility with cards, it only marks which tools DLSS contains.

DLSS 3.0 added frame generation (this part is only available on 40x gen cards) and brought some improvements to the upscaling technology (available to all RTX cards).
DLSS 3.5 added Ray Reconstruction to the toolset (supported by all RTX cards)

So even if you have a 30x gen card (or a 20x gen) you can still use the newest version of DLSS (the newest version of the Upscaling tool and Ray Reconstruction tool). The only thing you can't use is the frame generation, everything else will work as it should.

NVIDIA marketing made it really confusing.

That being said, the newest version doesn't always mean the best results. As you discovered (and I'll try it myself) version 2.5.1 may provide the best results for now.

I tried the newest version of DLSS 3.7.0 with the new preset E. I tested it a bit but not that much in depth. I think it provides a slightly better IQ than the original DLSS version, but ghosting is still there.

I will give a try to DLSSTweaks. Some folk tested it and works with the current game version, but since im running it at 1080p monitor im more interested in the DLAA than the DLSS, may be it can be forced to work... The same guy tested the DLAA .

EDIT: The DLAA forcing aparently could be enabled with nvidia profile inspector as well...

EDIT: Testing DLSSTweaks with DLSS 3.7 dll. Much better than TAA or SMAA. Impact in performance not percibible.

Probably JPG compression is adding some artifacts but look very good. A little blurry, but not so much as TAA.

That's a very interesting test you've run, are you able to share some "before and after" images with us @elGendo87 ?

Hi, there are 3 comparisons in the post, but if you want more, I will do more with a better quality... It would be interesting that CO include the DLAA in the game settings.

You should make them pay you for doing the testing that they should be doing themselves...

At the moment, DLAA gives a remarkable result. Added some sharpening trough Nvidia control panel, just to de blur the picture.
SMAA its sharper so adding more sharpening make it look worse.
TAA is garbage. Also adds a color shift and the global illumination works wrong. You can see some glitter effect.

Some details are really hard to compare in a screenshot, because 'reasons'.

To make DLAA works, you need to install third party software "DLSSTweaks" and a custom DLSS dll. Is not difficult and can be used just for this game only without affect other games.

It would be a great addition to the AA in game options, for those that have Nvidia cards that support DLSS.

TAA has a significant problem that makes it useless in this kind of game.
It works based on past frames, correct? But the camera is often static when you observe something. So TAA does nothing because the frames remained mostly the same, especially when paused. It's noticeable when trying to make screenshots, a second after you set up the camera the quality decreases.

You don't notice the aliasing that much when you're moving the camera anyway, so the method isn't needed, but when you stop, the same method is useless because the camera is static. For the time being a combo of TAA (for moving) and SMAA (for static) could work until better solution is implemented.

Yes, that's how TAA works and why is terrible in this games. I never, ever used TAA in any game, it's horrible. I tried SMAA with sweetfx but results were the same.
DLAA gives me excellent results by far.

I also currently try DLAA and the difference to TAA is really noticable, also on 1440p - there are way less artifact/ghosting problems.
Some as lossless image as possible:

(dear lord please fix these vehicle LODs (lower left and lower right in picture)

There is still one issue: during rain artifacts are flickering on screen which can not be removed through the settings provided by DLSSTweaks or ingame, but that in general applies to rain situations.

Also here is a short clip to show that there is no ghosting in place when DLAA is used (in comparison to TAA in which case everything smears away):

I use the following settings:

RTX4070ti Super, btw.

There actually IS a downside of DLAA - you notice visual bugs even more easy, something CO shall look into before enabling this mode on all systems maybe ;)

Some examples - alley road edges through which one can see the water below terrain:

Or vehicle LODs loading too early:

Also shadow flickering is even more immersion breaking.

I used DLAA preset default. Only forced dlaa and auto exposure, didnt touched other settings. But using DLSS dll v3.7. I didnt saw any artifact in rain or terrain clip. Can't talk about lods because i use a very low setting (35%) so always see lod models of vehicles.

Edit: today activated day/night cycle and experienced some "sparkling" from the global illumination. It disappear if it set to "render in full screen" or how the option is in English. But still prefer that to other AA. I dont know why in the screenshot didn't show up, so may be some tweak could be done...
