I think the portraits of the dynasty should be DNA-based. For instance if the King and the Queen get's a child the child should look like his parents. And if like one of the parents is white and the other is arab the child should look like a mixed race.

And also i think there should be alot of portraits like 10x more than there was in CK1.

CK1 portraits were DNA based...

Apparently not enough.
They were and perfectly, it took half traits from father and half from mother, bastards were clones of father, so yes, they were correct

Not only that, but CK2's portraits are confirmed to have DNA. So, thread finished :)

An average CK1 character looked way more like its same-sex parent than an average real-life person (except when there happened to be a change in light/dark culture).

That's because the DNA sets for each gender corresponded differently, so the mother's nose, if it was inherited would look different anyway f.e.

Bastards should have half of his traits chosen from his father, and half of his traits randomly generated.

Or a mistress character could be randomly generated and arrive at the court, and the bastard could have half her traits. :p

To clarify, this thread is about how the character looks in-game (what is called their DNA in the game). And if children should look like their parents.

Traits in the game are a different thing and can best be discussed in another thread.

To rephrase for the sake of clarity: genetic physical appearance traits, such as a big nose or blue eyes.

Guess what, there's a certain thing called visual traits... aka what people look like.

Why not just have everyone in the game have a big nose?

Traits are an in-game term for the acquired personality quirks of a character.
Ofcourse in normal language use, traits also mean things like big noses and stuff, but since we are discussing CK, it's easier to keep the word "trait" for those acquired things, and speak about "DNA" (which is also a different term in-game from the real thing) for those visual things that you get from your parents.

Check the forum-rules, the next time you wish to comment on a post made by a moderator.

2.You will not argue with, comment on or question the actions/authority of the Paradox staff (Administrators, Moderators, etc.) in a public forum. Should you wish to do so you are directed to contact the Paradox staff via PM (the private messaging system - see “Violations and Penalties” below).

That does say actions i.e. likely referring to commands not usual talk, I was referencing something you said, if you interepret that in that in the way you're suggesting then it would be illegal to quote a moderator.

You quoted my post and then commented on it, that is not allowed on the public forum. Use the PM system if you want to comment on my posts as a moderator. Or even if you just have questions on what is allowed and what is not.

Don't do it again

It did irritate me that certain similar phenotypes did not have the same "genetic" stamp in their DNA. For instance, the DNA attributes for blonde hair, strong chins, etc, were given different DNA codes based on genders. This decreased the likelihood that two parents with similar genes would have similar looking children, (or look similar to one another.)

In CKII, I hope this will be changed, and that there will be more similarity between genes and their phenotypical expression across gender lines.

I just wonder how it will deal with darker skinned people. That really wasn't discussed in the Dev Diary and was an issue because there were no inbetween stages you'd normally expect. I don't think it should be impossible to change skin color for descendants. Hopefully they'll have a better way of dealing with it than CK1.

Since I can't see how they are doing the layers, I'm only guessing. But, they could do something like this...

Skin Layer 1 (Lightest Skin Tone - Fair)
Skin Layer 2
Skin Layer 3
Skin Layer 4
Skin Layer 5 (Medium Skin Tone - Olive)
Skin Layer 6
Skin Layer 7
Skin Layer 8
Skin Layer 9 (Darkest Skin Tone - Black)

Granted, it doesn't have to be that extensive, could probably do it with just 5, but it's just an example. Each skin layer is a different shade of color tone. You could incorporate that into the DNA based system by assigning a skin tone to a character. The offspring between 2 characters (man and woman) would be the averaged number between the two. For example, you have a male with a skin tone of 5, and a female with a skin tone of 1, and their child would have a skin tone level of 3, which is averaged between the parents.
