Bough Imperator on GOG (might have been a mistake from the looks of things), seems can't make any mod to work, tried Invictus, bronze age, black&red UI, nothing works.

Tried adding mods automatically with the launcher, I see the mod splash screen during loading but afterwards it always ends in a crash.
Tried downloading mods manually and unpack them in the mod folder, nothing happens.
Tried changing the mod descriptor to the exact mod folder, didn't work either.

Anyone has any idea whats going on?
Is this a version issue?

I think 2.04 of Imperator is only a beta, the base version of the game is still 2.03. So you won’t be able to use any mod that’s been updated for 2.04.

Does GoG have a way to use beta versions of the game like steam does?

I think so but no 2.04 beta is available for Imperator Rome...
But you mean that most of the mods are updated for a beta patch? If that's the case I'm boned, since the patch has been in beta since April last year and Imperator is pretty much dead or in a VERY deep coma...

We have our War of the Ring mod up on Paradox mods and it seems to be working fine for Gog users.

Make sure you click "Download mod" and then follow the "Installation" section on the mod's page. Following that method may also help you install other mods like Invictus etc.

Well that did it!
It seems the problem was how the mods had their files and mod descriptor organized, War of the Ring had one folder containing the mod and a descriptor with the mod folder path, Bronze Age just dumped everything in the mod folder and its descriptor had a "remote_file_id" (no idea what it means) instead of a path to the mod.
So I just copied War of the Ring template, moved the Bronze Age files into a new folder simply named "bronze" and replaced the "remote_file_id" with a mod path to the "bronze" folder, Bronze Age works now, thanks! It seems I might pay an unexpected visit to Middle Earth as well.

If anybody is having the same issue here's an explanation:

This is the Bronze Age mod unpacked, move all its contents to a new folder except the "descriptor.mod", name the folder something like "bronze" or whatever the mod name is and apply the same name to the descriptor, in this case it should be "bronze.mod".

This is how it should look like:

Finally, open the bronze.mod, delete the "remote_file_id" line and add "path="mod/bronze""

It should work now.
Thank you Pureon for the help, and the War of the Ring Team for keeping their mod files TIDY!

Note on Invictus:
For some reason, everytime you launch Imperator the game would change Invictus descriptor file and add some weird path and an archive lines...

Make sure it looks like this and make the descriptor file ready only.

Glad it worked for you. Enjoy your trip through Middle-earth!
