I am a long time lurker, who recently bought a copy of CK complete. I've got my first game going and things just seem to keep on getting slower and slower. So after checking the size of my save games I noticed one I saved in 1068 was about 10MB and the one from 1122 was 22MB. So I am wondering if someone has built a save game trimmer (I seem to remember one existing in the distant past) that will work with the latest beta (or any DV trimmer at all)?

You can get rid of some families if you edit the save game, and remove for example the dead father and mother of some characters. Or just remove the father/mother-son link by making the living descendant parent-less like a randomly generated character. The in-game purge function will then remove all the ancestors from the save game file as soon as you hit the 1st day of the next month.

That is a bit tedious and you need to do this for many many characters to get a noticeable effect in save game size, but it should be possible to trim the family trees this way especially in the later game centuries because by then many unimportant characters and many families of has-beens will have family trees stretching back to pre-1066 times that contribute little to nothing to the game experience.

Well, thank you. I suppose I could do as you suggested, but it seems to me that it would be pointless to spend more time cutting people out of the savegame file than actually playing the game.
