Has anybody tried playing the 1938 campaign in MP? If yes how long have you played for, and what are your impressions? Is it well balanced? Does the scenario have any bugs/mistakes/equivalent?

We're just starting a gaem right now with it. Let you know how it goes. I do know that the SU got a kick in the bollox and then some.

If the soviet union got a kick in the bollox and raped it would be good however thats not even 1% of what it gets.

I've partially played two 38 games sofar and i really think it works great... :)
The weaker USSR really does the trick

it works great if you have no idea how to play

Care to clarify about what you realy mean? Do you mean it's not well balanced (either too much pro Axis or pro Allies)? Or too many bugs? Or what exactly do you mean?

I've discussed this with Stukhov on V-Net and it seems to be a snap-judgement rather than based upon actual play. The German position at the start of the 38 scenario is a roughly historical one and so is not as über as the Germany that Stukhov builds by September 38 from a 36 start. Stukhov typically aims to build about 50 Panzer divisions by then and amasses a huge stockpile of oil to support them. Historically, Germany still only had three proper panzer divisions in September 1938. The scenario is generous to Germany by also classifying their four Leichte recce/cavalry divisions as nascent panzer divisions because they were later converted to that role.

What he doesn't seem to allow for is that the other countries are likewise not as über as they can be if played by a human from the 36 start point. The 38 scenario should not be judged by the standards of typical 36 play. It should be judged on its own merits as a balanced scenario, fairly representing the countries as they were then in history. If you want the extremes of 36 play then you should, of course, continue to play the 36 scenario. But that really doesn't work without house rules, does it? So if the 38 scenario can be played without all those props and crutches (and I think it can) then it's already doing well.

As Pedal said, we've not gone to total war yet in our new series, but the force tallies seem to be fairly balanced for MP gameplay. You're also not as constrained in your options as in the '39GC.

I think it's about what you're after ... i've always been a bit disgusted of the numbers of divs you could put on the board in the 36 scenario... both in hoi 1 and to my disappointment also in hoi2. Same goes for tech. I really like the fighting better than the out-building, out-teching. :eek:o
