I've been looking for a dragon egg for quite some time. Will an event eventually happen where I find/buy a dragon egg, or do I need to take one from someone who has one? And if it requires me to go get one, how do I do that?

I am not sure, I think you need to go to Dragonlore type places with that for it to trigger... I found one once when I went to a war in Volantis though petrified in a pile of rubble, and while you are there go to the old city to pick up some intel.
