yes it works with one caveat.
you need to hit f12 but that key is assigned by the os.....
so here is the work around:
go to system preferences--> assisted devices and turn on speech help.
this will allow you to use f12 to activate the console...meanwhile your mac will speak everything so remember to go back and switch it off
