Hello!

Over in the MOD WISHLIST thread, we were talking about how the casino doesn't seem like a building that fits the environment of an early Mars colony, and it could maybe be replaced by a library, or a theatre. Following that thought, I thought of a few buildings that could be introduced that would provide service to colonists and add a bit of diversity to the set of buildings already existent:

- A library could provide relaxation while generating a little bit of research as it is used.
- A tennis or volleyball court could be an alternative to the open air gym
- A fancy restaurant could provide dinning, luxury and social
- A jewelry store could provide shopping and luxury while consuming a bit of rare metals
- An hotel could be used to house tourists, while it generates a little bit of income
- A pharmacy could provide medical checks while reducing the likelihood of babies being born in the dome
- An yoga place could provide relaxation and exercise
- A game board cafe could provide gaming and socializing
- You got the gist, right?

I like sharing these kinds of ideas because some people have some really creative and interesting ideas!

What building would you like to be able to place in a dome?

Cheers!

When an entire library can be carried around in a phone or tablet I'm not sure a dedicated building makes much sense. Are we going to have to ship all these books from earth or will we grow trees on Mars just to make book paper?

Tennis and volleyball will be... weird... in 0.38 gravity.

Fancy restaurant kind of implies that not everyone will be able to afford it. Which would require an economic system that allowed each colonist to earn and spend money. And, while this sounds interesting, I don't think the game has this feature.

I would like to see Total Recall themed buildings. Brothel, slum, corporate HQ, rebel hideout, alien reactor

A shooting range, because guns in a pressurised dome on a lifeless planet, what could possibly go wrong? :D

And a Sacrificial Altar, we need someway of sacrificing our colonists to the Princess of Mars :p

Hi Posca,

The library doesn't really have to make much sense. The books could be brought in the ships, for all that I know. After all, the colonists will be living on Mars inside of a dome, and that doesn't make much sense either.

As for the fancy restaurant, it doesn't need to imply there is an economic system, or that some people cannot afford it. The "fancy" is there just to make it different from a dinner and also to service the luxury need of the colonists.

Cheers!

Hi Posca and FunkyBigadom,

Today, libraries focus on electronic materials on Earth either. Libraries doesn't have to be a place where you can only find printed materials.
Pharmacies and yoga place seems like nice thing to have as well as game board cafe. (Or any other cozy cafe, I'll name it le petit cafe)

With anticipation,

Dome to Dome Transportation system?

Like a monorail

In the current version, there is already a trasportation vehicle, in other words shuttle. It is affordable, doesn't need infrastructure but uses fuel and they carry single person.
If we were to imagine new kind of trasportation, it should be at least what the shuttles lack. For example, monorail, rail and subway system needs infrastructure and requires people to maintain. However, they will not use precious fuel, plus they can merge domes into one settlement.

What I suggest it to have subways. The game already has tunnel and spire interface. Why not a special "spire" building, functioning as subway station be impossible? It'll need people to operate, it does not see sandy surface which will not contaminate the dome, runs on electricity but very expensive thing to have, but hey, it merges services and domes into one settlement? That'll do :)

Notice: DLC or mod which brings us this "merging" availability will broke save games, I expect.

Libraries are more than just books. Videos, conference rooms, quiet study areas, computer access and other services.

brothel would be a good building to have. definitely makes sense as a late game building. If we're going down that path though, I'd like to see addiction as a trait because undoubtedly there will be drug addicts as a byproduct of injury or illness in a developing colony on mars.

Addiction would be pretty awesome, and plenty of Drugs you can become addicted to which aren't specifically illegal, like Vicodin and Morphine.
