Chapter 1: Count Anas Dux, Corsica: 1 January 769 A.D. - 22 October 770 A.D.
Chapter 1: In Which Our Hero Acquires His Mission and we do some Generic Introduction Stuff.
Corsica: 1 January 769 A.D. - 22 October 770 A.D.
I am Anas Dux, Count of Cismonte and of Cinarca. Which is all of Corsica. By all rights, I am the Duke of Corsica, but I cannot afford the new Portrait Border yet. Someday...
My Proud Family Crest is the result of a misunderstanding at Giovanni's Discount Heraldry. I regret not buying the extended warranty, but, what are you going to do?
Anyway, we're not here to discuss Ducks, but rather The Dux. Which is me.
I work for this guy: King of the Lombards, who gave me this island. It has always been my ambition to acquire as much wealth as I possibly can while also acquiring as much power as I possibly can.
But that has changed.
Late last night, I was racing to the Little Count's room (It was a some bad garum), when I stumbled.
Below is a reenactment of the event.
Now, some say it was the garum. Some say the concussion. But I tell you now, it was God Himself I saw in that instant.
"Anas...Anas. It is I. God."
"I bring you tidings of the End Times and the role of you Ducks in it."
And then He showed me three things:
Warriors shall pour from the East on horseback. And in the Land of Rus, they must be stopped. By The Dux.
Then, Warriors shall pour from the West. Out of boats, I suppose. I didn't see gills or fins or nothing. They also must be stopped. By The Dux.
Thirdly, he showed me that since this would take a while, I should probably have some kids. But that The Dux may never rest, for we are The Shield of Christendom!
So, anyway, that's why I'm proposing marriage to you today.
"Do I get to keep the hat?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Okay, I'm in."
Armed with my new wife and also these people, I'm sure there is nothing I can't accomplish!
My first goal: Duke of Corsica. I'll be The Duke Dux with a Duck. Oh man. I have to tell Maria that one! She thinks I'm hilarious!
And I only need 150 more Solidi and I'm gold. Literally.
It kind of pushes my finances in the wrong direction, but I need a court physician and he's pretty inexpensive.
Probably only trust him with minor or peasant surgeries.
and I'm certainly not paying him extra to write a book!
Maria is with child, which is a good start on the whole prophesy thing.
I do kind of wish I hadn't gone cheap with a blind doctor now though. Ah well. Wait...Maria? What are you doing?
"Going on a pilgrimage. Why?"
"Is that the best idea? Aren't you going to rest? This has been a hard pregnancy, the sign said so!"
"I look like a stuffed sausage, my back feels like a team of dwarves have been dancing and drinking all night on it, and I haven't seen my ankles in a month. Are you really going to try and order me around right now?"
"..."
"Have fun!"
And she did.
Right up until the part where she gave birth to twins on the deck of a ship as it docked in Ostia.
She'd already named them by the time they got back to the Castle.
I don't know Latin, but apparently their names mean "Strong Lad" and "Powerful Woman."
Maria is a class act.

Greetings and welcome to this AAR. I haven't done one in probably half a decade, but I want to take a stab at it, with these New To Me forum tools, where I can insert images and write as I play.
It will update as I play, because I'm going to real-time make it. Which means, probably irregular updates (they may ride up on each other or be days apart), an incoherent story, and some degree of chaos. Also, I have no idea how the story ends. This might last a few years or centuries in game. Despite a decade of playing CKII, I am not very good at it, so if you want a WC, you'll want to scamper off elsewhere.
I have enabled everything I own, so All Portrait Packs and All Expansions, from the Greatest of Them (Holy Fury probably) all the way down to Sunset Invasion.
