thank you for responding to my cry for help. i did forget to mention that it is the doomsday version( although i do still have hearts of iron 2) incounted the same problem with that version as well. not being computor minded how would i apply the patch after downloading?,

Uninstall both HOI2 and Doomsday. See this for how to be sure that everything is gone.

Then install Doomsday.

Rename avi folder to avi.old.

Download the patch: http://www.paradoxplaza.com/downloads/dd_13a.exe

When finish downloading, just double click on the .exe and say yes to everything.

The game should now work.

thanks for the help on my currant problem, just a quick question but what is an avi folder? and where would i find it?

Use windows explorer to find where you installed doomsday; this should be something like... program files\paradox\doomsday\
There you should see a folder named avi: doomsday\avi

This avi folder has the movie intro for when the game starts up. By renaming the folder, the game will skip the intro movie.

just got round to following the advice given to me by the forum members. Using the instructions provided by yourselfs, i have the joy to be playing hoi2 dd once more on my new laptop.

Bringing to an end my days of none compliance (the crash and burn) and enjoying once more the thrill of battle and hard won conquest.

A big thank you once again your advice has been invaluble.

once more to the breach........
