Hi! I downloaded rome gold through steam. Within 1 to 4 minutes of loading the game i recieve a bsod informing me of an error in nv4_disp (obviously a graphics driver issue). I have tried updating to latest drivers but the issue remains. Any help that you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Dxdiag follows:

Others are using that same driver for this game, so I'm not sure what your problem could be. Try uninstalling the video driver completely, and let Windows use the Default MS one. Search your whole c: drive for nv4_disp.dll and delete it where you find it. Then download a fresh copy of the proper nVidia driver, see how that goes.

Hello again!! I thank you for your assistance so far but i am not out of the woods yet. I have followed your advice (both clean reinstall of drivers and directions in the sticky on nvidea issues). I disabled fullscreen and multisampling. This succeeded in stopping the bsods (yay!). However, now the game is hitting me with an array of (seemingly) unrelated ctds. I will elaborate on the most common:

1. Game fails to load. I recieve this message - Error Failed to create a graphics device Exiting

2. Game window loads to black screen. After several minutes of black screen it ctd.

3. Game window opens and game begins to load normally. Partway through loading i get c++ runtime error. I tried updating runtime as per previous forum posts; first to 2005 version then to 2008 version. Neither has eliminated the occurance of runtime errors.

4. Game window opens and game begins to load normally. Partway through game freezes and become totally unresponsive and must be ended manually. Occasionally it simply ctd instead of freeze (normal ctd message not runtime error message).

VERY rarely the game succeeds in loading the title menu. When i attempt to start new game, it slows down to a crawl at the faction select screen (30sec-1min to respond to mouse click). game ctd within a few minutes.

I know this may seem a tad improbable (i wouldn't believe myself if it wasnt happening before my eyes). I have now spent 7+ hours on trying to get this game operational. I refuse to give up on this. Please any help that could be offered would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can I see the settings.txt and system.log files please.
