I would like to see the AI try to marry within their kingdom more. The only great house I see consistently doing this seems to be the Martells for me and even then they very quickly seem to lose their Salty Dornish ethnicity.

But the stupidest has to be the Targaryen children. Who don't marry anyone unless I set it up.

Especially with the Religion Tweaks submod so anyone can marry anybody. I keep seeing big-name characters like Cersei, Catelyn or Margarey getting married to random Dothraki khals on the other side of the world, and dirt-poor Skagosi wildling women marrying the frigging Triarch of Volantis.

I guess they had the same ideas like Danearys, bring the horse lords to Westeros to conquer the seven kingdoms.

I personally think that Crannogmen should have a separate religion that can inter marry with the religion of the Old Gods. At the moment they marry rivermen, sistermen (who incidentally should marry amongst themselves since everyone seems to hate them), in fact they marry literally anyone. They are notoriously zealous when it comes to their religion and they're also very insular.

Maybe add an Old Gods heresy that could handle this or something

I've tried a trait before, called "crannogman" that acted as a hyper version of zealous. I found that it didn't work as well as a new religion in the wildling religion group (i had to alter the sacrifice option to exclude this new religion, as well as the localisation to say that the crannog religion couldn't sacrifice).

The recent patch has an option to turn off matrilineal marriages. I suspect I'll be clicking that button frequently when I play this game.
Matrilinear marriages are the bane of my games; When daughters are married to bring in land instead of alliances, something has gone horribly wrong...

I have had agnatic-cognatic inharitances disabled for most cultures by editing the inheritance laws file for long time now. Thus houses stay in power as long as there are valid males to inherit. When the new agot update comes this prevention of matri marriages will be welcome addition.

Besides in my games there still are occasional female rulers as their claims get pressed or they win adventure conquests.

Didn't the rp submode have a decision that turns marriages into matri marriages as well as changing the kids dynasty if the Ruler is Female, King(Lord Paramount) level or higher and the husband is unlanded?. Default blocking Matri Marriages and having that decision and the AI to use it seems like it'd be the best fix you could get. Still issues I suppose if the Targs marry a Lady Paramount but at least thats more in the realm of possibility than house Crabb randomly inheriting the reach.

But wouldn't that just completely and totally screw up almost all the Dornish?

Hmm I didn't think about that, but you're right. I'm not sure how to square that circle, but I have a few ideas about event changing children's dynasties.

It's too bad matrilineal marriages aren't an define that can be tied to culture.

It's also annoying how the AI will frequently arrange nephew/aunt and niece/uncle marriages. Not exactly a common thing in Westeros, at least among non-Valyrians.

Maybe we could restrict the different women's right/succession laws to certain culture (I think it's a thing), allowing the dornish to keep their matrilinear marriages
