Bought the game today and using scandinavian patch 1.1 on my 2000mhz intel processor with windows xp, 512 mb RAM and like 30 gig free harddrive space.
Soundblaster Live! with newest drivers, direct x

My problems;

1. The game exit to desktop after running the intro. Changing the music folder makes me able to get in to the game but I can´t hear any music.

2. Often during the game or tutorial game exit to the desktop. Why?

I would like some help on these matters. It looks like I´m not alone on having similar problems, unfortunately pan visions support-page wont work.

So please help me so I can enjoy this game I paid 479 swedish crowns for.

1. This is an issue affecting several people who have the game, and Patric mentioned in the other thread that they're looking into why that is happening.

2. The tutorial has a known bug (or two) that cause CTD (crash to desktop) - can you be more specific as to when this is happening during the game (ie how many times, what were you doing at the moment it exited, etc...)

It happened first when I played the Soviet union on slow game-speed. Just crashes, twice did it happen.

A moment ago I played Finland in the 1936 scenario and in january 1939 the game-crashes when running the game speed fast.

I also have Europa Universalis 2 but never gotr any problem with the music-folder there and I still play on the same computer.

Look I don ´t wanna be a bitch but I think that a game you pay in total 48$ usd should at least work properly. I´ve got a computer which should have no problem running this game so I feel very disappointed at the moment.

I´m no computer expert so I just want the product to work. That´s it.

Please help

I understand your frustration and hopefully even if we can't help you out here on the board I'm sure you'll get good help from the developers...

So about how often is it crashing? Random amounts of time, or every so often (once an hour / once every half-hour)?

Also, does your computer crash at all using any other programs? Or is it only HOI that you're having problems with?

Third, did you install Service Pack 1 for Windows XP? Not saying that would be a problem normally but we might as well cover all the possibilities.

No its just chrashing during HoI nothing else. I have not use any program. It seem to crash very randomly.

I use directX 8.1.

Worry not - there will be more help here pretty soon.
It will seem like overkill to start with but more is better than not enough :)

No nothing. Anyway it just chrashed again as I was going to look in to the warfare-tutorial.

With videocard you mean graphics-card?? I use Geforce 3 ti 200...

And I don´t get any error-messages. But sometime when the intro CTD I says runtime error. But the intro only crashes when I try to have the musicfolder named "music"

  :(

The problems mentioned here (with the tutorial and the sound folder) are known, and being looked at. We are commited to helping you. The random CTD you are getting in your game are harder to pin down. If you can note the date, what nation you are playing, and the action you believed caused the crash, that info will be a big help. Basically the more info we get the better. Also if you have a save game that can reproduce the ingame crashes, please hold on to it for a while as we may like to take a look at it.

Thank you for your reply.

I have no save-game as I don´t have the time to save the game before CTD.

But I will keep you informed of whats happeing further ahead.

DO you think the random CTD got something to do with settings on my computer or bugs in the game?

Turn the auto save feature on and set it to monthly, then if the game does crash you have not lost that much, and if it crashes with the save at the same point, you have got a verified crash.

Make sure you have latest drivers from creative labs for soundblaster cards. www.soundblaster.com

Also if you have any video card based on Geforce you should be using the certified drivers from nvidia. www.nvidia.com

Agreed, especially since I've read tonight that CTDs can happen with bad nvidia driver installations. If you want to go through the official way of doing a nvidia driver upgrade:

-Go to your display card's driver properties, and change the driver to Standard VGA.
-Reboot
-Now upgrade your display card to the new drivers.
-Cross your fingers!

Let us know if you try this.

If I try Nivdia-drivers. Can´t I just install them, must I deselect my card in preference menu???

And in what way is Nividias drivers better than them made by the company which produce Geforce???? If I chose to install will this change anything and in that case what on my computer?

a(lready updated my soundcard btw)

As I said never had any problems with any game except HoI... :(

Deselecting your drivers is the preferred method given by Nvidia itself because if you just install new drivers over the old they can.... mix together, and cause all sorts of bad things to happen.

As for using Nvidia generic drivers as opposed to your manufacturer's drivers, it should be no problem. Just about every company just takes the Nvidia drivers and slaps their name on them anyway, and usually the ones available from Nvidia are much more recent.

Unless you have some cool Display panel options that your display card's manufacturer added in (doubtful, usually they are Nvidia defaults) - you may want to search the manufacturer site for the latest driver. Otherwise, go with the original source!
:)

Hm Looks like I got Nivdia afterall.....installed about exactly a year ago...is there a newer version of Nivia drivers?

Should I still install Nivia-drivers and can I just extrakt these new files or must I first deactivate the old drivers?

You should extract the new files, deactivate the old drivers by going to "Standard VGA", reboot, and then install the new drivers.

By the way, Nvidia releases new drivers more often than I can count. One year old is about 20-30 driver updates ago... :p
