  • Europa Universalis IV: Rule Britannia
I was just reading the Dutch events as you do and it struck me how small the window is for this event to fire.

Must be Netherlands
Year must be 1495 to 1536
Mean time to happen = 123 months

It looks fine on the surface, but now consider that the Netherlands cannot appear before Admin tech 10. Consider also that Admin tech 10 is scheduled to appear in the year 1531, giving you 5 possible years (10 year chance) for Erasmus to appear. I have to wonder if this is a slight oversight, to have a window of opportunity of 41 years in the event file, when in reality (if you have filled out Admin ideas) the absolute earliest you can adopt Admin 10 is the year 1522 for 966 Admin points (ahead of time - ideas - curia), giving you an actual maximum possible window of 14 years.

Suggested change? Must be Netherlands OR Holland.

Also while I'm here how about making him a level 2 advisor? How many nations can afford level 3 advisors, even discounted ones, this early in the game?

Or they could add a new modifier "Very discounted", which would reduce the price by 66% or even 75% and would apply to early lvl 3 event advisors.

Changing it to require HOL or NED instead :)
Thanks m8

I've found a similar advisor event, only this one is the other way round and is in BRAPRU events.

Praxis pietatis melica
Must be tag BRA
Must be 1635 - 1700

Again, I think a slight oversight not to include PRU, as there is another advisor event below it that can be BRA or PRU and is earlier between 1539-1560.

Bumping this, in the hope that my above post in regards BRAPRU event id = flavor_brapru.35 can be taken into account before 1.19 like the OP.

Not only that but I've also found another Dutch fellow who I think deserves some NED flavour (I will look silly if he's already in the game and I've missed it):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Huyghen_van_Linschoten

Dutch merchant, trader, navigator, writer, instrumental in the spread of knowledge primarily of India and the East Indies but also of the far East, from Iberia to the rest of Europe through his works being translated into English, French, German, and Latin within a few years of publication in Amsterdam.

There are multiple ways to introduce him. Probably a discounted advisor would be the preferred route. Something like:

Is Netherlands
Year is 1590-1610
Owns Holland
Has completed Exploration ideas
Has embraced Printing Press
MTTH something like 100 months

Gain discounted level 3 advisor named Jan Huyghen in Holland
Trader or Navigator (I would lean towards Trader as the colonial range shouldn't be so important by 1600 and there is a Navigator advisor event already for NED in the mid-late 1500s.)
Gain some monarch points. 100 Dip? 200 Dip? 100 Dip & 100 Admin?
10 prestige
Reduced naval attrition. -10%? -20%? For 50 years? (Wiki - "Huyghens provided nautical data like currents, deeps, islands and sandbanks, which was absolutely vital for safe navigation, along with coastal depictions to guide the way")
I thought of also suggesting a trade power modifer in some number of trade nodes in the East Indies but then this advisor event might become too powerful.
Could add something affecting relations with Portugal as well, as his copying of secret maps and charts and such from the Portugese was not sanctioned. Maybe something quite important like Dip rep malus to counter a potent advisor event.
