so, there are actually so many problems with this one bit of ui purely because paradox does not know how to behave themselves. floating dynasts cause so much weird behaviour. players who do the funny meme incest are probably aware when the dynasty gets big and circular enough, clicking the dynasty tree button can and will cause hang bad enough to crash the game. floating dynasts are a great way to ensure this happens basically no matter what

this would be BROADLY fine if the character database wasnt a hot mess, but its realistically never going to not be. and as a cool added bonus, with r2p they introduced a brand new mechanic for admin characters to adopt random lowborns into their house without adopting them fully as family members, granting ai characters the power to cause more of this while a game is actively in progress

i think ive kind of given up on ever hoping stupid stuff like bishopric dynasties - that is, unrelated characters all assigned the same dynasty to denote they are all intended to be holders of a specific theocratic title, such as the aquileia dynasty in 1066 or the polites dynasty in 867 - will ever get cleaned up. instead, itd probably be better to just make it so the game doesnt have a goddamn heart attack when you click open that screen. would also be nice if it didnt look completely hideous but, you know, ill settle for stability first and foremost

We’re all mapped nerds here, and they are too. But for the most part Paradox behaves very professionally. You’ll see me giving constructive criticism to the devs too, but saying they can’t behave because they have an outdated mechanic in a 5 year old game is a bit unfortunate.
