It is impossible to go bankrupt before 1837.

Playing around a bit as S-P I managed to get over $6M in debt and did not go bankrupt until Jan 1, 1837

Odd...is this actually at all useful, though?

Sounds like a bug. -->Bug forum

I'm not really sure it is a bug...

It may be you have to be in debt a year or some such intentionally. Or it may be that the triggers for bankruptcy are checked on Jan 1 of each year. I can't say I've gone bankrupt enough to know. This doesn't mean it isn't a bug either.

As for whether it is useful - I can't think of any use per se. I actually wanted to go bankrupt on Jan 2, 1836. :)
