there have been many release dates from various retailers...
Generally don't trust them.

Heck, the release date from those retailers have moved as many times a as beta...:D

According to someone who posted here, retailers just make those dates up, although as Amazon has the same date it appears as though someone might have announced that as a possible date a while ago.

Nothing on the SF site and it's been posted many times that only official release info is reliable.

Snowball hasn't said a word about CK going gold then don't belive any release date until then.

interestingly enough, PCGamer has 9/2 as the release date as well.. so there could be something to it.

Having been an accountant for a company that produces corp bussiness application software the release date listed is an attempt to get pre orders by the various retail outlets.

The sooner they can get your money the sooner they can spend it, its the old theory that a dollar today is worth more then a dollar tomorrow because today you can spend it. Rarely do pre release dates have anything to do with the producer of the software its normally a retailers ploy.

as per Johan this is the offical forum for the game, if a release date was announced I think its a safe bet Harvard or another mod would have posted it.

EB, and PCGamer, and Amazon.com, all guessed the same day? Too weird...the odds of that happening are one in a number bigger than one. :D

They cross-referenced each other to make the consumer believe the date is accurate. Its seems it may have worked.

Maybe they believed that the beta was "just around the corner" or they overheard something at E3.:)

They could be hedging their bets - 9/2 (2 Sep) early guess

9/2 (9 Feb) late guess

Can we go back to guessing GH again - I think it's more fun.

Yes, lets guess some more about GH.

The most confusing thing about it is that Sergei called it Gosh and Holler, saying that those words sounded like what the title really was. :)

there is no beta yet. so I don't see the game to come out till christmas. unless beta will go only for a week which will create the game that is full of bugs.

Amazon has had that release date for months. I don't think it's a coincedence that the online stores have the same dates, and as far as the "dollar today" ploy goes, that doesn't apply to Amazon as they don't bill until the game has shipped.

Maybe they dont bill until the game is shipped, but I am willing to bet that a "projected preorder sales analysis" is done every month to gauge potential future revenue and is used as a supplemental report to actual monthly sales for per share valuation analysis, sales quota's, and most importantly credit.

So yeah your not giving the dollar, but Amazon can go to a creditor and tell them they have "X" preorders and get more credit, so the effect is almost the same.

Any business in the world that can get you to pay, or promise to pay before services are delivered will do it every time it just boosts projected cash flow and revenue numbers for future periods thats what these companies are doing.

If they werent and actually knew something why wouldnt there be an official announcement? There quessing, hope we will think they are right and pre order and get the financail boost associated. Every pre order online ? I have and when I call Funco and they didnt have the game they didnt tell me thier date was wrong they told me it was held by the game producer/publisher.

Pre ordering isnt bad though, at least you get the game, normally, as soon as the retailer does.

Possibly, though having been involved with a company who almost fraudulently claimed similar sales (bill-later sales which were never fulfilled 75% of the time but accrued in the accounts as 100%) I'd have to say that when it comes to the internet there is cash or a promise and creditors are no longer inclined to believe those promises :)

I remember pre-ordering Baldurs Gate 2 and steaming when it was in shops well before it arrived. With the industry's current penchant for shipping alpha builds as retail, I doubt I'd ever pre-order again.

I don't think the game is coming out that date, just that someone, somewhere might have suggested it as a date a while ago.
