So will an editor come with the game or with a patch?

Haven't seen any mention of an editor.

There is a time lag between the game going gold and it first appearing on store shelves and during this time the programmers and betas continue to be hard at work. I think most people would prefer to benefit from any improvements made during that period (if there are any and if they're ready) and wouldn't object to a Developer's Enhancement Update 1.01 if it's offered for free on Paradox's website. :)

Agreed. Sadly though the patches often include fixes that some believe should have made it into the game release. I am extremely optomistic that that wont be the case for CK, that infact Developer Enhancement Update's will be exactly that, and not a "patch" which CptnKiff referred to in his post, and is generally associated with a fix, not an enhancement.

I think they should release a patch before its in stores just to catch warez pplz.

I don't want to start an argument, but why torture yourself? Editing game with notepad is 10x times faster and much more simpler.

Depends on what exactly you're trying to do, though - a well designed editor could make the process much easier and efficient, especially for those not familiar with the text formatting in Paradox games.

Creating countries and make them know certain provinces is a PAIN in notepad... for this I would really prefer an editor (I would say that the IES wouldn't exist unless there was an editor for EU2)...

I don't really need an editor. EU2 has one and I have never used it. Having a good game is more important...

I agree 100%. If you want to pain yourself with manually finding and writting in over a hundred provinces to make sure the country knows whats its supposed to know... Fine.

But an editor IS terribly useful for the rest of us, if nothing else its effective for simply trying out how different basic setups look, you don't even have to exit the editor! The lack of editor severly put me off editing Viccy, please don't make the same mistake with CK. :(

I concur. That's what I use the editor for myself.

I agree. I don't understand something. Why people complain about lack of editor before they even start to play game...Editor probably will be included in one of the patches so what's the problem? Editing game before even playing couple of games makes no sense as for me. ;)

For what it's worth...

I can see the potential in CK for an extremely active Scenarios & Modifications community for CK. As has been mentioned by Johan elsewhere, CK has very few "scripted" historical events of the type we've gotten used to seeing in other Paradox games, and has many more random events that are less predeterministic in nature. Personally I think this is an excellent game design decision since it creates a much more flexible environment to simply have fun with the game.

However there is a (strong) lobby on this board of people who have strong leanings towards a more "historical recreation" sort of game. The events/game system still allows for this and I can easily see a "Real World Scenario" springing up where an attempt is made to model a scenario that adheres to RL history as closely as possible. I can also imagine a number of other scenarios being of great interest to certain other "focus groups". For these people, a scenario editor would appear to be highly desireable...

I think (but don't know) that the inclusion of a Paradox-made scenario editor is unlikely - at least with the initial release. However I do think that there are a number of people here who possess the skills to create one of their own. The files structure is a bit different than past games too and I think it lends itself to easy Notepad editing; but for the massive/global changes that the "Real World Scenario" would involve I guess an editor would probably come in handy.

I won't use any editor, since I've never modded, but I do think that an editor will come in handy for those who do mod.:) But if an editor isn't included in the 1.00 release, I hope that it will be included as a separate download and not as a part of a patch, since that would probably make a huge patch. I have ADSL, but not everybody have that.;)
