So I followed the system outlined in this reddit post from 2014. Seems like a lot of the education changed from vanilla...so I followed it to the letter, granting my son a court education and a mentor with 16 learning. According to the post that should mean I get level 4 trait no matter what. But I didnt, I got amateurish plotter, a level one. Not even 'remove_trait-amateurish plotter-ID' console command gets rid of it either. Has education changed again from the 2014 system?

Heres the post in question that details the changes.

Also a second question on education- Given how court education emcompasses both intrigue and diplomacy is there a way to tilt the favor towards one or the other? Im tired of my rulers getting intrigue bonus when im trying to go for diplomacy.

You are only guaranteed a max education if your character no their mentor had 15+ education. Also that post is 2 years old so probably out of date in some respects now

Oh so its the child, not the mentor learning stat that determines tier and its the mentors learning which powers the childs learning stat growth, makes sense. Certainly makes learning much more vital than vanilla. What about court education...any way to influence whether you gain intrigue over diplomacy or vice versa?

Yeah I noticed Im not able to slide females into council positions detailed in the post. Is there a manual of sorts where I can get the most up to date information for AGOT?

The manual has very little to say about the education system though.

------------------------
[6] New education system
------------------------
The education system has been dramatically altered to incorporate both Maesters and the new combat prowess traits. Your child's educational path is no longer based on their guardian. Instead, when your child reaches the age of six, you will choose their education from among the following options:

- Groomed for command (Martial Education)
- Groomed for court (Diplomatic or Intrigue Education)
- Tutored by a steward (Stewardship Education)
- No formal education (A random education trait, likely to be poor)

Any formal education will now cost you money.

NOTE: Conclave DLC users retain the new education system introduced in this DLC.

Get event to choose what type of eduction and then on 16 high learning = better chance of a higher education trait
Conclave retains their system but also has the higher learning = better chance of a higher education trait
