Here's the place to put your reccomendations for the Byzantine monarch lists. I'll be coordinating with the event files, creating lists for the purpose of running the multiple pathways that will be availible. Here's the standing list.

IIRC, there was already a Justinian III(I'll check this in January, though). We have John(Ionnes), Constantine(Konstantos), and Michaels. Let's not worry about Anglicianization yet.

There was no Justinian III, that I could find. Anglicization is easy (most sources are already like that), and will be less painful now with a shorter list.

The Byzantines tended to spread their names around, except for Constantine (over a very long period) and Michael (over a much shorter period). I'd expect to see a Romanus or two in there ... how about some new names like Samuel or David (to choose a Jewish/Old Testament theme) ... or Paul or Peter (to choose a Christian/New Testament theme) ... or Socrates or Plato (to choose a Greek/Pagan theme)?

Uhh, about that- Plato's not really a name; it's a nickname, means broad shouldered. I don't remember what Plato's real name was, but Plato was kind of a trademark (think Madonna).

Anglicanize the names (ie, John, Michael, Constantine, etc).

Somewhere we need:

Justinian III
Heraculis II
Basil III
Constantines
Michaels
Johns
Leos

And...

More of Irene and Zoe (Empresses)

We need Thomases (sentiment for my name, and beside there was NEVER a monarch by that name, and the name was used in Byzantium) Alexanders and (straight from Greek) Alexios. Also I was thinking that after the numeral we could add a family name (pretty much like Improved Byzantine Saga for eu1) like Paleologus, Comnenus, Ducas just to name the most influential families in Byzantium.

And what about leaders??? There are only two now, both acting during the war that sealded the fate of Byzantium

Ok, nix Plato. You get the idea.

I posted a list of historic Byzantine family names in the leaders/monarchs thread (I think), which I culled from 50 pages of Treadgold index. Those would all be appropriate for leaders.

I'm arguing for the importation of "Louis" from W. Europe, mostly because it's my name, and 18 French kings isn't enough! :)

Mamut - David Comnenus (I think) wrote up a Basil Digenes Akritas, based on the Byzantine epic of the same name. I just need to code the events to activate him.

Eh wasn´t that me??

Wasn't you which? Wrote Digenes Akritas or posted the list of family names? I posted my list of names in whatever thread right after someone else (maybe you) had posted theirs ... mine was somewhat different, and had more last names as opposed to first names. But I was only promoting my list. ;)

EVENT TIME!

Ok, let's do this. I'll need a basic "chose monarch" event for use here. Using Dragases, Comnenus, Paleologus, and any other required names, I am happy to script an interlinking monarch list involving the families. I'll need about 100 events and at least twice as many monarch spots, as well as ideas as to what each family should represent. This will get interesting, and I have exams coming up. May have to take a break.

Wrote Digenes Akritas I meant. Not that I care much anyway since it was 20 minutes of work. Not much to argue about.:D

Oh, ok. Yes, all I know is that I didn't write the actual code for Digenes Akritas.

David Comnenus - do you want to sketch out your events, or would it be easier if we posted some simple templates for the choosing monarch events? They would all be like

event = { # Bubba III vs. Hoss II
id = 33000
random = NO
country = BYZ
name = "Bubba III vs. Hoss II"
desc = "Choose Bubba III or Hoss II"
date = { day = 1 month = january year = 1800 }
offset = 0
style = 3

action_a = { # Choose Bubba III
name = "Choose Bubba III"
command = { type = monarch which = 10000 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 10001 }
}
action_b = { # Choose Hoss II
name = "Choose Hoss II"
command = { type = monarch which = 10001 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 10000 }
}
}

You can also replace the word monarch with leader for leaders (duh), and use the wakemonarch command to reactivate a potential monarch who was previously put to sleep (a sleeping monarch/leader won't become active during his lifetime).

At least, I think that's all right. I haven't played with any monarch/leader events.

driftwood

If I am given a list of events, I can cook up a monarch list from that. I just need the events(unless I get to decide on those;))and I will be happy to write in a long list of monarchs to work with. I will need to have a list of event ideas and a limit on the number of monarch path changes or I will run off with this:D.

Since no one else (including me :)) seems to want to propose a series of monarch branching events, let your imagination run wild. You'll probably get better feedback from people attacking your hard work than from asking them for prior input.

As a compromise, though, feel free to post descriptions of all your monarch/leader events, and one of the many coders here can translate them into code (if you don't feel like doing that yourself).

driftwood

Thanks. I'll try and code the events, but I'll probably run into a jam up or suffer from bad coding. Only corrections should be necessary. I will have a good list by Saturday if not earlier. All ID's WILL be tenative.
