Is everyone coming up with a new set of starting relations for the countries they're developing events for? Seems pretty important to me.

For instance, Byzantium should have good relations with the other anti-Turk nations (Serbia, Albania, Moldavia, Wallachia, Hungary, Bosnia, Trebizond). Even their relations with Turkey should be at 0, since they'd had a pretty stable relationship with them recently (as semi-vassals). This makes a major difference, because if their relations with Turkey are 0 or higher, Turkey will choose a minor in Anatolia to be its first victim. Plus alliances ...

Hehe. But at least since relations are reciprical, we only have to handle all the permutations, not all the combinations (or do I have it reversed?!).

Although I've always thought that it would be nice if France could have +100 relations towards Spain but Spain had -65 relations towards France. Then maybe you would use the sum or average to determine ... what ever you use relations to determine. :)

You only have to work out important relationships, since generally religion, alliances, and wars should move them in the correct direction.

Even at -50 Turkey usually goes after Candar in the first place.

This is something that I would also like us to look into. Because of 0 in starting relations many wierd alliances are born. I dont need to give you any examples as you have probably noticed this already....

Btw why is Serbia "anti-turkish" country? AFAIK they supported turks at battle of Nicopolis something that no other turkish vasall did.

Bosnia was not anti-turkish either at the begining of the game. It was actually turkish troops that helped bosnia break its vasall relation to Hungary.

Good call on Serbia. I was thinking of their vassal lite (tm) status after 1389, and as one of the breakaway subject states after 1402 (6 years after Nicopolis). I'll have to read a good source to figure out when Murad II brough them back into the fold. And I thought Bosnia was in a roughly similar position as Serbia vis-a-vis the Turks at that time.

But, anyway, you get my point.

Mamut - thanks for pointing that out. I think a starting relation in the -50 - 0 range is historically accurate. Unfriendly, but kind of cordial and formalized.
