EIC cannot start, urgent!!

Hi guys,

I have a copy of EIC and after installing the game and its latest patches the game does not tend to run. It did not run even before I installed the patches. When I double click on the game icon the screen goes black for around two seconds and a Windows message box appears as 'we encountered an problem' sort of error and it prompts me to inform Microsoft. I restarted the computer and got nothing better.

By the way, my computer meets all the requiremtents for this game:

2.08Ghz AMD Athlon XP CPU
1GB RAM
Windows XP SP3
More than 20GB of free space
nVidia GE Force 5700LE 256MB graphics card

Sorry for occupying your time but please make it as soon as possible to solve this issue as I cannot play the game at all now!! Thanks!!!
 
Hello,

Could you please paste the information from log.html file here? (log.html can be found in the folder where you installed the game. Default folder: "Program Files\Paradox Interactive\East India Company".

Oh damn, so you mean I need to wait for the next patch to come out, and in the meantime, I can only wait?? Well please check if there is any other ways of solving the problem, also it might be good if you can explain what sort of problem this is???

Yeah, it's a shame but the patch will be out soon (if you read this forum you will find a post saying devs started working "first thing Monday" on it) and many people are waiting for it with you. It is supposed to introduce a lot of gameplay improvements so as much as you might feel frustrated, it actually is not that bad a thing you will start your EIC experience with it.
 
Haha I was expecting to play it during the weekends... Its okay no big deal.

I rather wait for the new and better version to be released, because I know its worth the wait. So thanks guys for your help, much appreciated!!!

Thanks for providing the newest patch!! However there seemed to be another problem. =[

I downloaded the patch, and unzipped it, when I try to install it it says EIC was not found on my computer!?!?

Weird? I have no idea what is going on~~~`

Help again please, thanks!!
 
Hi,
If you bought the game from Steam or Impulse, you SHOULDN'T try to install the patch manually but wait for the patch through Steam or Impulse.
But if you indeed have bought the boxed version or from Gamersgate for example, then you can add the needed registry key manually as described in the Patch info sticky and the patch should install.

I have checked the sticky on patch info but unfortunately I couldnt find anything related to the registry editing part. I went through the list of registries and cannot find the game, nor the publishing company, ie Nitro Games. So I think it might be the registry problem after all that is creating all the trouble. May someone instruct me on how to add the registry completely mannually???

Hi, the info was indeed there, but here it is copy-pasted :)

1. go to your start-menu and select "run" (or something similar if your windows is not in english)

2. write "regedit" (without the quotes) and press "ok" or enter

3. select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE

4. if there is not a folder called "Paradox Interactive", create it by right-clicking on SOFTWARE and selecting "new" -> "key". Name it Paradox Interactive

5. Now create a new key by right clicking on Paradox Interactive and name that key East India Company

6. So now you're in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Paradox Interactive -> East India Company

7. Right click on East India Company and select "new" -> "string value"
Name that value "directory" (without the quotes)

8. right click on "directory" and select "modify". Now type the EIC-installation folder to the value data. For example:
"C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\East India Company" (again, without the quotes)

After that the patch should install fine.

Same problem for me. Have I bought too soon?
