I've had Crusader Kings pre-ordered for more than a year through EBgames... and I just received notification today that they canceled my order. Their reason was that the game had been canceled.

From watching the forums, it seems pretty obvious that the game is pretty darn close to being released... so what is EB thinking?

Any ideas?

Just because they give you a reason, it isnt necessarily the truth, not that Im implying anything. They may have decided not to bother stocking it or changed their mind for another product.

Not sure how supply and distrubtion pre-release agreements work, but I would have thought that either party would be free to renege their side of the deal!

who knows..... <shrug>

Send them an angry email and refer them to the latest pressrelease and screenshots.

Well, they have been waiting for the game for quite a while now. I guess they have been getting emails from angry costumers who preoder the game more than a year ago, and have not received it yet ;).
No need to get angry for this, since we dont even know the full story :)

Well I find this bizarre too, considering I work at an EB Games myself.
What exactly happened? Did you put money down on it, or was it an empty pre-order, i.e. no money down on it?
Now we all know the game is not cancelled. I would chalk it up to that particular person's lack of knowledge, something we frown upon at EB :)
I am not sure of EB Games Canada and EB USA work differently but I dont understand what you mean by "I received notification that they canceled my pre-order". At my store, we dont cancel pre-orders on whims, and are not allowed to enter or search people's files to see what they have pre-ordered. So this behaviour you describe is very puzzling to me. On our lists it shows CK as being released in mid March of this year. Hopefully I have cleared it up or at least brought a voice from the company. Feel free to ask me anything else regarding policy and i'll look into it. :)

Indeed, but its not the poster fault that businesses see the need to protect them selves from any negative backlash or legal action.

It is a valid point! Maybe sales in the ME will go up, as gamers try to take on the imperalist pigdogs!!

- Please remember, Im being lighthearted here!

Actually I am genuinely confused as to how this happened. Your sarcasm is noted 2Coats :) More importantly: what is the issue here? 1) Bad customer service? 2) EB Games' suppliers being told the game was cancelled.
Since it makes no logical business sense to disappoint a customer by not buying games to then sell and make money from.
Maybe up here in Canuckistan we do things more honestly? ;) Who knows.

Maybe 1, maybe 2. Doesnt make the company bad. As you say just the individual.

Actually, my view is the fact they HAVENT appeared to give an explanation is the unforgivable thing! Maybe theyve been told porkies by a rival games company or the man in charge of the decision, is a closet fan of a rival company.

Games get cancelled or delayed all the time, maybe EB had been told release dates before and been let down x number of times. I find it hard to believe that these sells actively check, prolly rely on a distributer/reseller interface/channel to get the latest news.

Perhaps you or the original poster should let them know that the game is still alive and wiith a very expectant customer base! Including the states!

Oh one last thing before I shut me trap, could this be a federal thing? Can the fed. gov actually stop something that they could see as inflamatory hitting the shelves?

-Speaking hypothecially here!

DO you know exactly when you ordered? If infact it was a full year ago, maybe thier is a policy with EB games that makes them refund your preorder after a certain time is up.

Most websites have at the bottom a link to thier copyright info, sometimes in that link, if not otherwise posted clearly on the site, are the terms of preorder, take a look, it might be an auto cancellation due to the extended time.

Sounds very much like they picked a standard email response and didn't check to see if it was accurate. Last night we had a powercut and it turned out it was because the engineers were digging up the road and had asked for the power to be switched off while they did the work. The customer service line still said the usual "we are aware of a power cut in your area and our engineers are investigating the cause. We can provide no further information at this time." Blatant rubbish since the power had been switched off by them so they knew exactly why :)

Well, we all know that there will be a game called Crusader Kings in the near future. Even if these shops decide that they do not want the business, I will still be able to obtain CK through other vendors ... I never use overpriced amazon to buy things, anways ...

Heck, I ordered Road to Appomattox way back when. I don't want to hear about waiting :p
