Emergency vehicles and traffic

I was watching some videos about simcity 2013 and I realized there was something completely stupid about how the emergency vehicles drive.

They stay stuck in the traffic, they should be able to overtake, even go on the wrong side of the road if there is no traffic in front. And more, other cars should give way to them, try to merge or even park aside to let them pass.

This is how it is in real life and this really needs to be implemented in a realistic city builder.

From the alpha videos that is how C:S behaves but bear in mind that alpha is alpha. The main problem with this way of doing it is that when you have traffic problems, as all major cities do, it completely destroys the city as emergency vehicles are unable to get anywhere. If it was just a visual thing I wouldn't even care.

Yes, I would love that. There was another thread regarding making the city feel more alive and this would fit perfectly. Of course for true realism a simple robbery should bring five or six police vehicles together after which they all stand around looking like they're doing something, or scowling at loiterers doing the same thing they are.

Definitely irks me to see emergency vehicles behave like normal traffic in sims (one of the perks of driving the big red truck is breaking the speed limit, on the wrong side of the road and through red lights).

And please no electronic two tone siren for fire trucks .

Unfortunately it is most likely their behavior like SimCity.

I was thinking the same thing.

Would be nice to see other cars respond to the emergency vehicle. Even see the emergency vehicle drive on the wrong side or on the curb / shoulder to get past.

In my dream city builder, I can make a designated emergency vehicle only lane....

Yeah, fire lanes are common where I'm from. Cars can use them but have to give way to emergency vehicles. It's really essential that these vehicles have the right of way.
