I just read that it is possible in DV to get the title of Emperor by the pope. I have played quite a few campaigns and had very pious and prestigious kings, but it never happend to me. How does that event trigger?

Well it is not really a title but a trait that you get, which gives +5 prestige per month

These are the conditions, thanks to chowbeng !

You need

1) To have a king level primary title
2) To be catholic
3) 500 gold
4) 500 prestige
5) 100 piety
6) at least 16 years old
7) male
8) stability of at least 0
9) NOT already an emperor
10) NOT excommunicated
11) NOT heretic
12) NOT having realm duress
13) NOT modest
14) Papal State must exist
15) You must be a feudal state (as long as not bishopic/republic)
16) You must fulfilled one of the following:
(i) Papal controller
(ii) Relationship with papal state more than 100
17) You must fulfilled one of the following:
(i) Have 5 king level title.
(ii) Have the king title of Germany, Italy and Burgundy
18) Have at least 10 duke level vassal.

By fulfilling all 18 conditions, the event can trigger in due course.
