Greetings everyone!

Issue description
I can't seem to launch Cities Skylines

What is your game version?
1.16.1-f2

What expansions do you have installed?

What mods are you using?

Clueless, but I don't think any because this is a fresh install.

The issue in as much detail as possible:
I purchased this yesterday and I can't launch the game. I'm stuck in the paradox launcher.
When I click play I get this error message:
"An error occurred The game appears to have crashed or terminated unexpectedly (exit code null). The issue may be solved
by verifying the integrity of your game files and deactivating any mods. If you are using Windows, you
may also need to install Visual C++ Redistributable and (dot)NET Framework.

I don't have Citrix, I uninstalled Steam, and the game multiple times, I also can't seem to load it in safe mode, I've also verified a bunch and installed Visual C++ and (dot)net. My driver according to GeForce is to be up to date.

Can the issue be replicated? If yes, please explain how you did it.
When I click play in Paradox that comes up.

I was able to launch the game from the program file application and then an output log was generated. it still won't play or resume regularly.

You mean from cities.exe directly? Because that should not be possible with the Steam edition of the game- it's built to be run from Steam only.

There is no problem evident in that log. If you delete it and run the game from the Steam PLAY button, do you get that same NULL error as before? Does a new log get generated?

Yes, I still get that error. The log was not there initially but when I launched the cities application from the program files it made an output log. I'm still not able to load it from Steam. I've attached the latest output log.
If I delete it and try to open it via Steam it only launches Paradox and the play/resume buttons are grey and cannot be pressed.

You can bypass the launcher by following these instructions:

Download the attached cities.bat.zip file
Extract cities.bat from it
Place the .bat file in your game's Steam folder (In the same place as your cities.exe)
Right click the game in your Steam library
Go to properties
Select Launch Options
Copy and Paste cities.bat %command% into the input box
X out of that screen
Run the game from the Steam PLAY button

So now I'm getting a new error. Still won't open lol

I suspect we've done something wrong in that process. Can we see a screenshot of the Launch Options dialog from Steam please, and of the folder where you placed cities.bat

Screenshots 1 and 2 are as requested. Screenshots 3 and 4 are the message I get and what pops up after.

I also followed these steps and I cannot open the game. it crashes after I hit play from steam. I tried to also uninstall the launcher, and delete some files...as suggested by other sites, but nothing works :(

nevermind. i reinstalled the game and now it works :p (in hindsight, I should have tried this first instead of wasting 2 hours on trying "bug fixes" :p
