When trying to reinstall HoI2 from what was a known, good disc (no scratches), I keep getting error number 0x80040303 followed by the statement that setup will now terminate. All this occurs if I choose the 'repair' option in the setup menu. If I choose 'remove', I get a generic error message of parameter: 'Pdx_video' with Error: the parameter is incorrect and nothing else.

Doesn't matter if I clear the PE entry out of my registry or not.

To make sure it is not a system problem, I then installed EU2 and Grand Prix 4 (Atari) with no problems.

I have since tried to uninstall HoI2 (whatever actually remains) via the Windows Add/Delete Programs command. Here is what occurs (a mimic of what happens if I try to use the 'remove' command from the HoI2 Setup menu, also):

Have you followed the Uninstall instructions in the sticky thread?

okay, keep me posted.

The last part of the post concerning the InstallShield directory was the key. Interestingly, a search on that directory with 'hearts' revealed nothing. However, and I think this is key, the Add/Remove Programs entry for HoI2 notes that there was about 29MB worth of stuff left (as my pic shows). So I scanned each of the subdirectories in the InstallShield directory (all the cryptic ones) and found one that was 29MB and some change. The rest were all pretty small (under 1MB).

Deleting that allowed me to reinstall HoI2. So if people can't discern what is in each subdirectory of the InstallShield directory, I would suggest noting what the Add/Remove screen displays for the remaining HoI2 directory.

Not sure if that came across clear or not.

okay, glad it worked.

Hmm. Doing a quick search on the specified MS exception code, and it turns out that a lot of setup programs are generating this, whenever they are used in a Windows XP environment. Microsoft is not very forthcoming with information on this, other than "the application or drivers you are attempting to install is incompatible with Windows XP".

Short of manually deleting a whole bunch of files, the best tip I could find is to flag setup.exe to run in Win98 compatibility mode.

If it is that messed up, I would prefer to do a full reinstall. since we know it Does work with XP.
