Why are all the governors' estates now in the capital? Is this a bug or something?

Wouldn't it be more consistent for each estate to be in the province where the governor is from?

I add that I don't know how it was historically, just asking.

You get more bonus if your estate is in the capital, So what happens is all the noble families would move their estates to the capital as a result.

I would prefer if estates are a mix of land you have all over the empire, with maybe some estates in the capital but also other landed estates in the provinces.

What bonuses do you get? I don't see where they are displayed.

There probably should be some limiting factor that limits the estates in the capital. Only the emperor and the top 5 noble households can have estates in the capital.

We in fact have events to urge you to move to capital, I do not know if there's event to move back though.

If mobs of Constantinople were more aggressive...

Edit: In a Byzantine-style empire, I think that burghers of capital, especially Constantinople, should be more "privileged", as they may expel you before you could raise an army to suppress them. Not only did they riot in Byzantine empire, but they also riot in Ottoman empire.
The capital itself should also be more important. Not only the 4th Crusade, if capital of a admin empire is sacked not in a civil war or claim war, the empire should just be shattered. The capital is shaped to be the center of its bureaucracy, without it as a symbol, local ambitious generals may want to carve their own realms.
So lucky Honorius's capital was in Ravenna and could not be used as an example.
Besides, influence is in fact a quite abstract resource. Does that mean your popularity among bureacrats? Or does it mean you populariy in Constantinople? A noble could easily be loved by fellow bureacrats, but hatred by local burghers, and a unpopular Basileus could easily be expelled from the city, no matter how influencial within the empire.

The fact that you can move your estates suggests that your family holds multiple estates across the region. Being close to the court is a rational choice.

I have the same. Moreover, I can't move my estate.

I might be mistaken, but I think one of the reasons why all estates are in Constantinople is that during the development it was said that if the province that contained your estate was lost to an enemy, you would lose your estate and all the bonuses etc. that came with it. You would have to start all over again and all your gold and time invested in your estate were lost.

A lot of people didn't like that, so I think Paradox decided to have all the estates in Constantinople.

Like I said, I don't know if this is the reason and I am also not saying that I agree with it, but I do understand that people might get frustrated if they lose their estate, specially if it happens because your AI liege is not able to defend your lands properly.
