I have now for a couple of days had a problem with my eu4. Right now, it has now sound whatsoever. I have tried to look, whether it is muted on my computer, I have tried to modify some sound settings an I have re-installed Directx (idk what that is I watched a youtube video about this issue and it told me to do so). I have even asked in Reddit. I am no computer genius an most of the answers have been pretty hard to understand. Thus, i have come to the Paradox forums to plead for assistance. As i said, I am no computer genius, so please answer understandably. I thank all of you in advance!

Run the game up then alt-tab out to Windows. Right click on the speaker icon in the task bar and choose Open Volume Mixer. Make sure the game is not muted or at a very low volume there.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Did you do this? You don't say either way.

If the dxdiag.txt I asked for didn't attach, rename it to dxdiag.log first please.

The dxdiag thing appears to not work. Weird. I renamed it but still it doesn't attach. The volume mixer thing was one of the first things i did because everywhere i was told to do it. Sadly, it wasn't the answer.

Edit: I got it into a zip file if that helps

I see you have two sound channels using different drivers. The default one is using Speakers, and the other is a RealTek output using headphones.

If you switch the output channel in Windows does that get past the problem?

That would be VERY unusual ... you don't sound 100% confident you've tried both sound channels! Here they are:

-------------
Sound Devices
-------------
Description: Headphone (Realtek(R) Audio)
Default Sound Playback: No
Default Voice Playback: Yes
Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0897&SUBSYS_103C89B5&REV_1004
Driver Name: RTKVHD64.sys
Driver Version: 6.0.9567.1 (English)
Date and Size: 23/08/2023 3.00.00, 6527960 bytes
Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Description: Speakers (Scarlett 2i4 USB)
Default Sound Playback: Yes
Default Voice Playback: No
Hardware ID: USB\VID_1235&PID_800A&REV_0125&MI_00
Driver Name: usbaudio2.sys
Driver Version: 10.0.22621.1 (English)
Date and Size: 06/05/2022 3.00.00, 397312 bytes
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Both those drivers are not particularly new, so it won't be a sound driver update that caused this. What has though, I do not know!

Anyway, can you check you've tried both those channels? By far the most common cause of this issue is that RealTek driver, but if you get it on both it and the default MS driver that can't really be the issue.

Also, I see you have CK2 which is quite similar to this game - does it now have the same problem?

I physically removed the realtek headphones and it seemed to work. Ck2 and Eu4 seemed ton both have the problem but now it is fixed in both. Thank you so much for your help!!
