A Persian Brief History – Prologue
INDEX
1st Chapter

1356 – The Kingdom of Fars in this year is ruled by Shah Mubariz al-Din Muhammad Muzaffarid, his son Abu'l Fawaris Djamal Muzaffarid aged 16 is his heir, the lands of Fars is ruled from the city of Shiraz, from about 60,000 inhabitants. The population of Fars largely follows the state religion, Sunni, while there are still some provinces with large Shia and Zoroastrian populations, but a minority compared to Sunni.

Most of the population of Fars lives inland, nomads are most often seen on the coast, in the Persian Gulf and in the Strait of Hormuz. While the city of Isfahan in the province of the same name rivals Shiraz in the number of inhabitants, which even has the advantage of having a renowned University.

Fars lies with part of its territory bordering two rival states, the Emirate of the Chupanids and the Sultanate of the Jalayrids, two Shia states. To the east are the Emirate of Sarbadar, the Kingdom of Herat, and the Sultanate of Sistan. To the south lies the Sultanate of Ormozgan with its capital at Qishm.

The history of the Persians begins anew with the advent of the events that will take place next in the Kingdom of Fars, wars will be quite necessary to achieve glory.

A Persian Brief History – 1st Chapter

1359, May - Renewal of the King of Kings title, the Achaemenid Persian Empire, which arose on the Iranian plateau in the hands of the mythical Cyrus, swept across Mesopotamia, across the Levant, into Anatolia and to the gates of Europe. Persian Emperors have always yearned to surpass this mark. The Achaemenid government managed to maintain control of a vast empire through decentralization and royal roads, so loyal satrapies managed to maintain their relative independence to govern their lands, messengers could be quickly dispatched to inform the King's pleasures. Persian armies were common across all edges of the empire, and each had its own specificity and fought with its own style.

1359, September – War of Gulshan, declared in September 1359 against the Emirate of Sarbadar. 8,000 troops commanded by Crown Prince Abu'l Fawaris Djamal Muzaffarid invade the border province. By October the occupation would be completed.

1358, February – A conspiracy achieves success at the court in Shiraz, the beloved Abu'l Fawaris Djamal Muzaffarid dies, in which case an accident would be the cause, but soon talks about conspiracies appear from the mouths of the city's populace, after a few days the murderers are caught, they admit that they were working for the Crown Prince's brother, who is soon afterwards publicly condemned and blinded as punishment, thus losing his inheritance. In this way, a newborn named Uwais Muzaffarid becomes the heir, and his mother Kirama Ghilzai the first wife of the Shah.

1360, May – In command of the 1st Army is placed Mubariz al-Din Muhammad who defeats a force of 4,000 enemies in the Battle of Shahrud. In this way, it would make it possible to take the cities of Bastam and Khvaf by August.

1361, July – By that date, almost the entire Emirate had already been occupied by Mubariz's forces, the war ended with the Kingdom of Fars incorporating more than 80% of enemy territory. Soon the construction of a Fort starts in the newly conquered province of Sabzevar.
The taking of territories and the construction of a fort completely emptied the coffers of Fars, in addition to the situation of the death of Abu'l Fawaris Djamal causing national stability to collapse.

1362, January – The throne of the Chupanids becomes vacant, there appears an opportunity to conquer the whole territory, the Sultanate of the Jalayirids enter the dispute for the throne, the Shah Mubariz al-Din Muhammad without choice declares war on the Chupanids, starting again the warlike movements.

1362, September - In the first months of the war, the Chupanids enter the territory of Fars, meanwhile the 1st Army occupies the territory of Markazi, but after a hunt for the enemy army, the two forces end up confronting each other in the Battle of Isfahan, the forces of Akhi are utterly destroyed by the army of Fars, and the opportunity appears for a further advance into enemy territory, while the Jalayirids take the upper hand against Fars. While the 1st Army makes its way to Hamadan.

1363, May - After nearly a year, Fars forces conquer Hamadan, Qasr-e-Shirin, Kordestan, Urmia and Maragheh, while Jalayirid forces are forced to wage war in their territory against the Chupanids.

1363, June - The siege begins on the city of Tabriz, the capital of the Chupanids, but a little over 7,000 soldiers are not enough to take the walls, so nearly 1,000 mercenaries are recruited in Maragheh, yet the difficulties continue, and the General Mubariz ad-Din spends months waiting for reinforcements from Isfahan, which only arrive in December.

1364, March – After almost 1 year of siege, the defenses of Tabriz surrender, Mubariz ad-Din gloriously enters with his army in the city, the war officially ends there. Whereas now it becomes a defensive war, against the forces of the Jalayrids.

1364, June - The forces of Fars and the Jalayirids start the Battle of Qasvin, Shaikh Uvais starts defending well, his troops at the beginning of the battle were superior, but Mubariz ad-Din manages to win anyway, annihilating all the enemy cavalry in the dry lands.

1364, December - Now with nearly 13,000 troops, with 3,000 of them allied, Mubariz's forces again defeat the rest of the army in the Battle of Fars, impetuously Shaikh Uvais had tried to besiege the city of Shiraz months before.

1689178084662.png

1366, April - For another two years the war continued, the south of the region of Mashriq had almost all been conquered, until the siege of Baghdad began in March, but the army of the Jalayrids returned in force, 6,000 soldiers commanded by Shaikh Uvais attacked almost 10,000 soldiers from Fars, Syunia and Armenia in the Battle of Baghdad, but Shaikh would lose the battle, losing over 2,000 of his men, while on the Fars side not a single knight would die that day, but about 1,000 of footmen soldiers would perish.

1689178106456.png

1366, October – The siege of Baghdad would be won in October, the capital of the Jalayirids, with this conquest the war ends with the glorious victory of Fars. That would incorporate all the territory of the Chupanids, in addition to taking the provinces of Dezful, Izeh, Badinam and Bitlis from the Sultanate of the Jalayirids, starting a historical rivalry with Sultan Shaikh Uvais Jalayrid.

The great achievement of the war turns out to be the city of Tabriz, an important intellectual and art center in the region, in addition to being so important in production and trade, the city has about 90,000 inhabitants, the largest in the Persian region, over time, and recovery from wars, could rival Shiraz in importance to the Kingdom of Fars.

This looks interesting. I'll follow.

Congrats on beginning the reunification of Persia.

What's your plan for dealing with Timur?

Unfortunately I don't think M&T has any scripted events about Timur

A Persian Brief History – 2nd Chapter

1368, January – After the end of the war, the Kingdom of Fars found itself in a difficult situation, there were few men able to renew the ranks of the army, thus, Shah Mubariz ad-Din Muhammad Muzaffarid forced the powerful nobles for the lands that contributed men to renew the army, in a few months 9,000 men were at the Shah's disposal, but consequently he left the nobles ready to revolt. The same month the Shah dies, his 7-year-old son and heir is unable to rule, his mother Kirama Ghilzai becomes Queen-Regent.

1689810106030.png

1369, May - The Queen-Regent signs an alliance with the Sheikhdom of Banu Khalid, which is just beyond the territories of the Jalayirids in the region of Basra.

1689810118580.png

1370, May - The Queen Regent institutes the sale of public office in Fars, one of the most important tools of a monarch is control over public office, from sheriffs to tax collectors to governors and ministers, a rule could appoint men to the posts – or sell the post instead. The sale of office, a practice known as Venality, had two great advantages: it raised large sums of money for the monarchy, and at the same time it thinned out the aristocracy by adding large numbers of middle classes to its ranks – as long as they held the office they wanted. the Shah presented them. This creates a bureaucracy that is loyal to the Shah, helping to centralize power under him. On the other hand, it also leads to corrupt public officials, but this is nothing new.

1370, July – In the woods in Vaspurakan, rebellious Persian peasants are defeated by the army of Fars commanded by Rashid Rukh, defeating 7,800 rebels in the Battle of Bitlis in August, even in smaller numbers the army of Fars proves to be far superior to that of the peasants who lacked even capable leaders, thus leading to the swift end of the first rebellion under the regency of Kirama Ghilzai.

1372, June - Slave Insurrection, they rebelled in one of the plantation colonies, were suppressed, but at the cost of great brutality which now leads to the discontent of the happy servile population of the region.

1689810129369.png

1373, April – Around 10,000 peasants start a revolt in Esfarayen and Nishapur provinces north of Fars. Soon they take the region, Rashid Rukh commanding 7,000 soldiers attacks 5,000 rebels in Esfarayen, but he is shot down at the beginning of the battle, causing the morale of the Fars army to fall, consequently the army disbands with casualties of almost 900 soldiers, while the rebels suffer 1,600 casualties.

1373, July – The rebels take the Castle at Sabzevar which was in a precarious and neglected situation with few in the garrison. The rebels also take the province of Khvaf.

1373, December - Rebels take Sharud province and Gulshan, new commander of Fars troops 'Abbas Sa'id with the help of Bhobanyan Mercenaries are defeated in Gulshan region, general morale of Fars army is very low, due to the difficult situation with the High Nobles that make it difficult for the military to organize properly and fast. The army of 'Abbas As'id is defeated in Rey by the leader of the rebels Najid Mahmud who soon after takes Alborn.

1375, January - After some other vicissitudes, 'Abbas Sa'id manages to defeat 600 rebels at Soltanyeh, as the rebels have worn themselves out from encounters with the army of Fars.

1375, February – Queen Regent resigns in 1373, aged Uwais takes control in Shiraz. However, other members of the dynasty refuse to accept his rule due to years of rivalry. There is a chance that large areas of our territory will fall under the control of Uwais brothers or cousins, and it will likely take military force to regain such territories. As the ruler of a Sunni nation, the Shah derived his legitimacy from his faith. There is, however, a big difference between a ruler who really believes and one who simply goes along with the motions. He ascends the throne as Uwais II Muzaffarid Shah.

1689810141049.png

March 1375 – As expected, some princes establish their own kingdoms, the Sultanate of Tabriz is founded in the city of Tabriz, ruled by Sultan Yasir I Muzaffarid, the Sultanate of Tehran is founded in the city of Tehran, ruled by Sultan Ahmad I Muzaffarid. The three kin ruling separate lands could clash at any time, even though Uwais still suffers from revolts. Which by chance would be suppressed by January 1376.

1689810156761.png

1377, May – After Persian rebels take the province of Dezful in December 1375, the 1st Army leaves to face the rebels in the mountains of Izeh, still suffering from low morale the army of Fars is defeated even inflicting more casualties on the enemy. But in November the rebels are defeated in the Qir woods in a final skirmish.

August 1378 - Uwais II declares war on the Sultanate of Tehran now ruled by Sultan Muhammad I Muzaffarid, the situation in Tehran is critical after part of its territory is being swept away by rebels. 'Abbas Sa'id with 7,000 soldiers faces the weakened army of Tehran (1,185 soldiers) in the Battle of Rey, the enemies are massacred, while the army of Fars loses only 97 soldiers. But Tehran reraises the army with 3,000 soldiers and takes the city of Arak in the province of Markazi in February 1379. The war continues, and 'Abbas Sa'id conquers Rey, while the armies of Armenia and Syunia, vassals of Fars, take the provinces of Erzurum and Manazkert.

The loss of the outlaying lands is annoying, but Fars should be able to reconquer them…

Selling public offices might also lead to the rich dominating society… and poor nobles revolting out of envy… Its benefits outweigh its costs at the moment, though.

I'm not at all familiar with Meiou&Taxes, is it normal for parts of your nation to form separate nations or did something happen that made you lose those parts?
