Hello and welcome!

With he hopefully imminent launch of EU5 Project Caesar, we, as passionate players of EU4, believe the new game will not instantly replace the old one and that Europa Universalis 4 wouldn't deserve to be cast aside after all these years of gameplays.

This is why we're currently developing a total conversion mod that converts the standard scenario in a neveranding urban guerrilla fight for the supremacy over the city: Maranza Madness!

Maranza Madness changes completely map, terrains, trede goods, techs, religions, forms of government and countries!

Maranza Madness is set in a (sorta) post-apocalyptic Milano, Italy

We chose Milano for several reasons:
  1. We live in Milano, so we know the city well.
  2. Milano has a history that starts before the birth of the Roman Empire.
  3. It was the capital of the Roman Empire under Constantine. The Edict of Milan allowed Christians to profess their religion without being persecuted.
  4. The city was occupied by several foreign powers during the centuries, such as the Spanish, the Austrian and the French. Under Napoleon, Milano became the capital city of his Kingdom of Italy. This allowed the city to expand, grow and stratify, building one piece of history and culture over the past one (and allowing us to make a lot of formables)
  5. It's the economic powerhouse of Italy and is renowned for the luxurious brands that were born here. The presence of the Italian National Bank and very rich quarters allow for the creation of many superpowers on the starting date.
  6. It's the most multicultural city in Italy. This allows for many unique countries and many more formables, including SEVERAL KINDS OF ROMAN EMPIRE (we are sure you Romaboos will like it).

We already have some loading screens ready!

So, what exactly happened in this city?

Well, long story short, crime happened.

The great disaster that started everything occurred when Cyrus, by some called "the Great", by others "the Mad", sacrificed himself to save his fellow Fratm by the devilish Pula, an order of warriors who claim to fight for justice but instead keep persecuting the poor and innocent youth of the area.

This dude over here is a member of the Pula, also called "Police" by most.

How did Cyrus save his Fratm, though? By igniting the biggest petard he had ever made (with a bit of plutonium in it).

After the explosion, which left a massive crater in the northern area of the city, chaos erupted in the city and crime spreaded fast, becoming more and more violent. Mafia families and baby gangs competed for supremacy. Hooligan hordes started assaulting each other and raiding whoever was not rooting for their football team, while several persecuted gipsy families fled underground, in the now abandoned subway system. A madman claiming to be a heir of the Sforza family, the lords of the medieval signoria, secluded himself in the Sforza Castle, and someone else did the same with the Royal Palace of the old Italian royal family. Many underground canals were unearthed once again, some to trade, some to be used as natural barriers. The national government couldn't deal with them and abandoned Milano to its destiny. The mayor of the city struggled to keep a hold of the situation and quickly every area decided to stop following him and became de facto independent. Chinatown closed its gates, while the Archbishop planned to create a new Vatican City centered around the Duomo di Milano. The farmlands outside the city started forming a federation to protect themselves by the urban powers and by the great empires who are quickly emerging outside of Milano. Universities started doing their own things, developing better weapons and using diplomacy to balance their numerical inferiority against the invader. The Darsena, the old dock of Milano, ended up under the control of a Doge, despite the effort of other fluvial powers to contest his hegemony. Quarters, and even single buildings, decided to officially declare independence, forming their own countries inside the city and in a couple of years the area of Milano comprehended hundreds of microstates, while the crater was declared by everyone a forbidden area, as the fallout was still too dangerous. In order to remember the consequences of such a lack of order, the quarantined zone was renamed Cyria.

The current provinces mapmode. Not many oceans, but a lot of navigable rivers! You can see the crater of Cyria north of the city centre.

It's been 44 years since the distaster, and now the countries seem to have found some balance, with borders stabilizing and fortresses being built to ensure they remain unchanged. Some managed to take control of the airports, and may use them to their advantage to explore the map fast, if they manage to make them work. Meanwhile, the nuclear fallout of Cyria is finally dissolving. Who knows what riches they'll find, once they start colonizing the great crater...

This was the first post of the mod for Europa Universalis 4: Maranza Madness.

While we cannot already show the political mapmode, we can already tell you that it'll be full of vanilla references and memes. A lot of memes.

Next up, we'll talk about how we're dividing the city along other mapmodes, such as continents, superregions, regions and trade. We're looking forward receiving feedback from the community!
