My eu4 has ran perfectly for the last 3 years that I have played this game. However a few days ago my eu4 game crashed all of a sudden. (First time in 600+ hours of playing). Now everytime I open the game it's very laggy from the start scene on. I can barely get in the game itself. When I switch from borderless fullscreen to just fullscreen it doesn't lag anymore, however it does make it so I can't go over 60 fps. So does anyone know a solution to playing on borderless fullscreen with more than 5 fps? Playing on 1.30.6 btw.

Edit: I just tried HOI4 and Stellaris as well and bordered doesn't work there either. I also tried starting the game through files and same thing.

Can I ask why you prefer borderless to fullScreen? They ought to be functionally equivalent, really. In general fullScreen will be faster than any windowed mode.

And as a non-action game there's no real visual benefit for refresh rates over 60. Is it that you'd just like to see higher fps numbers for their own sake?

But if this happened after a crash, you could try deleting your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/ folder (except any valued save games of course) so the cache and settings get refreshed.

If still no good, DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

I prefer borderless mostly, because it's just smoother but also because I can alt + tab to a different window instantly compared to it taking a few seconds in fullscreen. Since I use it quite often to change music it can be quite annoying. But also i'm just wondering why it suddenly happened since it has always worked before. I already tries reinstallin and deleting documents eu4 folder and it didn't work.

I don't have anything on error log, because I already deleted and reinstalled.

Your video driver is a year old so may as well update it https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And we see several LiveKernelEvent entries in there, which happen when Windows is forcibly downed or rebooted. Are you seeing those, are they related to this game or something else?

And edit that settimngs.txt to say:
refreshRate=60

vsync=no
Is that any better?

It seems that the new driver was all it took, which seems weird, but it works I guess. Thank you very much!
