Well after some 4.5 months i've finally updated the EUII LibrAARy and will publish it within the next couple of days after putting the finishing touches on. I've made this thread for all discussion about the new library and i will start it off by clearing up a few things i would like to know before i publish it.

First of all, how would you like the library presented? The existing library is catalogued by author and by country regions whilst other libraries such as the EU3 library use by author and by country name. My database has the capacity to catalogue by start date, title, author, country name, country regions and status. Obviously a library becomes unnavigatible if too large so i was thinking of arranging it by author and one of country regions or country names. What do you think?

Also i have found that the EU2 AAR section has in fact one EUI aar (ITALY RPG/AAR) and one EUIII aar (wAAR in the pashific - remotely EU3). Should i include these in the library or should they be moved to their relevant sub-forum?

Lastly, the 'major links' portion of the old library is now very much out of date. What links do you think should be in the new library?

That's all for now as i look forward to your responses. I hope you enjoy the new libAARy (when i publish it ;) ).

Fantastic work Swert. I know it can be a very time consuming process. It really needed doing and I look forward to seeing the completed library. As for how to lay it out country regions is probably a good way to go. Possibly it is an easier way to find AARs when one is simply browsing for something new rather than looking for a specific nation. I would also debate whether anything more is needed. With the ease with which one and search using a web browser for an authors name it seems a little unnecessary.

I pretty much agree w/ Duke on categorizing. As for the "oddballs," I'd recommend a discreet move request should do it.

Finally, excellent work :D The EU2 library has definitely been in need of some refurbishing. It must have been quite a task ;)

As far as country regions, it works best that way so each post is not too full (and has room to grow.) Inside each, then the country can be listed. But it is defintely also desired to have an author listing as well. Check the Vickie librAARy for a guide. As for the other works, the EUIII AAR is kind of a beta and as such should be moved (I'll take care of that.) But the Italy RPG is listed here because it kept going after EUII came out so it should probably stay (perhaps in a special section or some such.)

Nice work!

EDIT - Also Swert, maybe send me a PM when you are ready to post your thread so we can work out the logistics of stickying it and unsticking the old. As well, do you plan on keeping any of the old librAARy or anything from that intro post?

On the contrary it seems the regions i had in mind are too large already. I was planning on using the same regions that EU2 itself uses but I have about 217 AARs in the 'Southern Europe' region which would break the post limit by 40,000 characters. I'll have to limit each post to about 100 AARs then which means breaking down all the regions to make them smaller. There's a total of 1393 AARs.

Most of the old librAARy i have already used. The intro post i will still need though as most of it still applies to the new library. I will copy all that and make a few adjustments for the new thread.

Well that will do for now. I didn't realise how long it took to post it all up...painful. I've finished the Regional Catalogue but will have to complete the Author Catalogue tomorrow.

Also i've found another EU1 AAR that will require moving (Deshi-Bahini =DB= Glorious War Stories: Episode I - MP Clan AAR). It's in the catalogue at the moment but i will remove it when i finish uploading it all.

Thanks for your support guys.

Officially stickied (though I did remove "Redux" from the name - no real reason for that since it is now THE librAARy for EUII.) Thanks again for the hard work and great effort! :)

Now, good luck keeping it current. ;)

Alright it's all posted now. Enjoy.

Thanks for the stickying (is that a word?) coz1 and the name change. I didn't want to call it THE library whilst the other one was still the stickied one.

Easier than one might imagine. We've had just one new AAR in the last month. At this rate the librAARy will probably never need an update. There's still plenty of readers out there so i encourage everyone to continue writing EU2 AARs.

To be honest, I have never found adding the new AARs to be the difficulty in keeping a librAARy current. It's figuring out who has ended theirs, and further, going through and adjusting the dates for AARs still going each time I do an update (especially for those that don't seem to want to use any dates.) ;)

The Update Threads are helpful for new AARs, but to me they are far more helpful for letting me know when one is finished or if an error has been made in the librAARy along the way.

And of course, the biggest obstacle is the time to do it. ;)

Swert:

Amazing work! Great job!

As coz says, updating the active ones to see if they finish may be a pain. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Outstanding work!

Great job, Swert!

Thank you for cataloguing all these magnificent works, so deserving to be remembered!

The library has once again been updated as of last night. Surprisingly, activity has picked up in the last 2 months with there being an increase in the number of new AARs for the first time in years. Keep writing and we'll soon have 1500 AARs.

Thank you for your work, Swert. It is the librarians of these forums that keep us from chaos!

The library has been updated once more as of today. Unfortunately we've seen a dropoff in ongoing aars since the last update. That just means that there's never been a better time to start a new one. Keep writing.

You might be already weary of that kind of comments, but I have to say it - great job. I appreciate it a lot, and I'm convinced I'm not the only one who does.

This current drop is just a result of the publishing of Rome and In Nomine. Once the first excitation ceases, there will be a great return. Also, I've noticed that a fair number of new players appear with questions in the main EU2 forum, which may very well mean a resurgence of this game in the future. Especially with AGCEEP's new map and Arabia Universalis both being in preparation, and also the releasing of the source code...

There will probably be a small return but it is inevitable that EU2 will slowly fade into the background, as it has done for years. Nonetheless it's still got plenty of readers and some great AARs and it will never come to a complete halt. Personally i'll be starting a new series of AARs within the next week which will hopefully keep me busy for the rest of year.
There's one upside though, as the activity declines my job gets easier :)
