First of all. Kudos to the last dev diaries. I was a bit sceptical about the start of Crusader Kings III at first, but the last two ones convinced me that it was really time to move on for more interesting mechanics.

But I would like to have one thing about the structure of the game. In CK2 there were often random events that changed only certain modifiers or traits. This is really nice while governing a country and there it should be kept for sure but in CK2, I would like to have much more events and event-chains between characters and make character interaction matter more. I really like the focus on that direction. and this is the chance to make characters much more unique with events and choices that base around their traits. Let a craven but just ruler have problems with a brave yet cruel vassal or a zealous and ambitious vassal trying to excommunicate his cynical and slothful ruler with the help of the bishop. With events around their traits and trait compatibility instead of just having a collection it could be much more fun going against other vassals, your liege or your subjects. It shouldn't be just like, oh the one is slothful, arbitrary and cynic and the other is zealous, diligent and just, and so they just don’t like each other with no other take than their traits. Let there be events more about their hatred, differences and their compatibility and their rivalries. With these events relationships can go up and down much faster and with some characters you can’t solve it with just throwing gold and titles around to make them content or trying to kill them immediately via satanic cults and plots. Let there be more finesse around those events.

I also want more events at crusades and other greater wars (please more flavour events and more love to that) so that a cynical has doubts on going to crusades, or a neighbouring ruler of a different religion trying to nab some claimed land from you while your armies are marching towards the holy land and you have to make the choice of getting your score up or saving your own land and even more events at the target etc. Also, the duration of the war should also give some additional events. A war that takes decades should tire out the lands of both participants not only with modifiers but also with events. Like an uprising of peasants or lords that want you to give up your claim on the land you want to conquer or give in at a war vassalizing you (without taking you down immediately), so that resource allocation matters.

That said, it shouldn’t turn into The Sims Medieval but with more events you can get more fun out of the gameplay and your characters and make the traits and trait compatibility matter even more.

For now I really am looking forward to the next diaries, especially religions and what changes will come happen in this segment.

x100. Crusades should be a much bigger deal if you're personally tagging along. At the very least, going to war that far from home should put you in a regency, and you should get events while traveling (and have the chance to end up like King Richard, if unlucky).

It won't be kept as such, and it's a good thing.
The devs confirmed that each character will have fewer traits, but those traits are here to stay and they are much more character-defining.
Instead of getting events that change your traits all the time, you will get events depending on your traits. Relationships between characters will also likely be affected by this focus on traits having a meaning instead of just being modifiers.

So, no more random stripping off of Good Traits in favor of bad ones? No more "Swords are Sharp"? And no more Chancellors getting the Paranoid Trait, me Consoling it out, and them getting the Paranoid Trait back the very next day?

I am fine with the removal of minor events to add or remove traits as those felt kind of samey, but I do hope that minor events in general will not be removed. If the game were just a bunch of big event chains, it would get pretty bland once you experienced all of them. There needs to be some variety between smaller random events to add flavor, and big honking chains, to make each playthrough feel more unique.

But yeah it was annoying automatically having a tiny event to remove my good trait because I had more than five personality traits.

Even worse, the "Swords are sharp" event didn't care how many traits you had. If you led your troops personally at all, that swords are sharp event would strip Brave off you if you so much as sneezed. Leading your troops just wasn't worth all the hassle of either dying-a possibility-or Craven-a near 100 percent certainty...

It's been a while but I think the reason for that is in earlier patches there wasn't that many battle events, or at least common ones. So, as a result, you end up getting the same ones a lot. It's better after Holy Fury when they added some more battle events.

But that goes back to my point about needing more minor flavor events. It's a lesson I've learned myself with my CK2 mod which adds in lots of flavor events - if, say, a lustful ruler only has a limited pool of events to choose from, things *will* get repetitive after a while. So, the more minor flavor events there are, the less annoyance there will be with the same stuff firing over and over again. CK2 is a rare game where quantity (of events and flavor) is just as important as quality, just to ensure more replayability and less repetition of events.

Yes, I would love to see new war events that would work with your traits more, instead of getting craven or something. But also with style of life events that broaden your rulers potential but also the role-playing persepective of the game (and with that the replayability). So more personaltiy-styled events would make much more fun.
I would love this more than being able to conquer the world within 3 centuries.

The devs confirmed that each character will have fewer personality traits, but other traits (like Lifestyle ones, Leadership ones, or stuff like Crusader or Sea King or Shieldmaiden or Immortal) are still unlimited. These are likely to remain mostly modifiers, sometimes possibly acting as an event trigger.
