Hello and welcome to what must be my......I dunno but I've done a lot of AAR's and finished......that's not the point. Well anyway, this is going to be a 'No nonsense AAR'. No arty farty 'one day he went to the shops and germany invaded'. NO! The arty farty is fine for a bit but everything is arty farty including most of my previous AARs so I reckon I should just do an 'actual AAR' and see what happens :).

As you have probably guessed from my aptly named title the AAR is about my game with France, it hasn't finished, it's barely started. I find it impossible to write an AAR once the game has been finished. I'm using CORE 0.71 which is very nice, some picture pack and that isn't relavant at all but I like it. I will not be writing to any kind of structure so I hope you don't find yourself too lost in this. Down to business.

F is for France!

When I turned the game on, apart from noticing the lovely new graphics and the slightly altered colour of the sea in the CORE mod I realised that I noticed that we shared a border with Germany (NO WAY!) and that only 3 provinces of the border were fortified. Using my brilliant intellect I deduced that Germany would probably invade around 1939 so I immediately set about building Forts in the provinces Lille, Sedan, Chaumont, Grenoble and Toulon. This will extend my Maginot Line (the big wall stopping Germany getting over the Rhine) behind Belgium. This is a sneaky trick because once Belgium falls which I assume it will because the stupid AI will try and sneak round there like it always does I will be sitting in forts and they won't be able to get through. Crafty eh? As for the Maginot Line I have started building AA guns in every province (Metz, Strasbourg and Colmar). It can't hurt to have a few of them floating about and seeing as the Germans will want to bomb me then it should kill a few Jerries and hey, the only place for a Jerry is 6ft under, right Ruskies? There are forts being built in Grenoble and Toulon in case the Italians try and pull a fast one.

After that breif defence maneuvre I had a brainwave, plenty of people have done it in their AARs so I shuld do it in mine. Increase the Industrial Capactiy of some Provinces. I had to do this according to a plan or something would go wrong so I decided all provinces that had under 2 IC in mainland France were to be upgraded. My plan sort of failed when I discovered that there were only about two provinces which fitted this criteria so I decided any province that had under 3 IC. They were:

Chateauroux
Limoges
Poitiers
La Rochelle
Bordeaux
Bayonne
Auch
Tarbes
Toulouse
Montpellier
Nimes
Rodez
Besancon

Unfortunately Grenoble and Toulon fell into that criteria but I don't mind making an exception this once, they are 2 IC which isn't bad and I wouldn't be able to enjoy the benefits if the Italians took them would I?

So my industry was getting updated, I couldn't be arsed to do anything to my colonies so I decided to move on to the military which I will cover in the next update.

I've tried extending the Maginot Line but it never works (Thoughs Germans just plow through anything) I hope you have more success...

Things aren't looking very good for France. I have just completed perusing the French Military on the mainland, here is how it looks:

Army -
24 Infatry Divisions
3 Mountain Divisions
3 Cavalry Divisions
3 Motorized Infatry Divisions
2 Armoured Divisions (Hotchkiss H35 (BL 37mm))

Airforce -
1 Fighter Squadron
3 Tactical Bomber Squadrons

Navy -

Atlantic Fleet -
2 Battleships
4 Cruisers
4 Destroyers

Mediterranean Fleet -
3 Battleships
3 Cruisers
4 Destroyers

Other Vessels -
1 Battleship
2 Cruisers
1 Carrier
11 Submarines
6 Transports

Let me just break those results down beginning with the Army. My manpower is extremely low, this is thanks to CORE 0.71 and their new Manpower system, oh well. It is at around 32. To make the most of what I've got until the War rolls around I disband the 3 Cavalry units. I have refitted all of the units to full strength except one battleship, that would really eat up my Manpower. With the Manpower I have left until it starts growing with German activity I will focus on building Artillery and Anti-Tank Infantry to hold the lines against Germany.

The airforce is something to be very discouraged about, I do not have enough Manpower to start building more so that'll have to do for now eh?

The Navy isn't bad and it should do for now, I do have the British as an ally so it isn't desperately important to upgrade them.

I haven't yet checked over my overseas forces, I will do that tomorrow seeing as I am home all day. Constructive criticism and help wanted!

*cracks knuckles*

First-

STOP MUCKING ABOUT WITH THE FORTIFICATIONS.

They're useless. If the Germans overrun the Low Countries, you're an inch from total failure anyway.

Remember these little tricks-

-Send your spare rubber to Poland. It will keep their industry up and running, and what good is it going to do you once you hit 90,000?

-Remember to watch your minister lists at the first of each year. You have a couple of must-have guys coming up, including the Administrative Genius Paul Marchand, and a foreign minister who spends no DI on tech sharing.

-Military control of Poland? Yes, please!

-Your tech share targets are the Allies, Low Countries, Poland, and occasionally Nationalist China.

-Send your armor to help Republican Spain in an expeditionary force.

-Use the DI you're saving on tech shares to mount a coup attempt in Italy. It will save you a lot of grief.

-Get military access from Switzerland. Nothing mucks up Germany's planning like mountain troops magically appearing in Bavaria.

-Once the front stabilizes, load a stack on transports and use them to mount raids across the North Sea and Baltic coasts. You'll muck up Germany's production, wreak havoc on the Luftwaffe and Luftflotte, and you just might be able to sack Berlin.

prufrock: lol bit too late to stop buggering about with fortifications, already got them building! btw i say i dnt like many arty farty but i like a few and yours was brilliant!

32!!! wow, thats low. *Wringkles forhead* Its been way too long sice i've played france (too hard to take over the world with them), but in the past raids along the caost work very well. Just odn't go too far inland or you will be cut off and slaughtered by 800 German divisions :D

Best of luck!

(Generalbob, nice sig)

800

Fine, not nessisarily 800 but i've seen them crush 2 brit inf divisions with 8 inf, 3 mot and 5 arm before

I have been moving divisions about the country trying to form a sort of defensive line. I found 2 Cavalry Divs in Africa so I disbanded them too for the Manpower. Anticipating the Germans building tanks 3 French Anti-Tank Infatry are in the build que but I don't know how much good it will do me.

On the 1st February when the Germans marched back into the Rhineland I got a lot of nice Events. I had a choice between these actions:

1) Denounce the German Action
2) Extend the 'Maginot Line'
3) Extend the 'Maginot Line' and partially mobilize
4) Mobilize and declare war on Germany

I chose number 3, the first two had no consequences, number 3's consequences were manpower increases and you get 2 dissent. Number 4 was rather rash, it would make me leave the Allies and DoW Germany and get loads of dissent and Manpower. In response to this some other message came up asking me if I wanted to extend the 'Maginot Line'? As before I said yes and I apparently lost some resources although I cannot see the difference.

Started taking Prufrocks advice, given techs to Poles, Belgians, Dutch and the English. I really need that minister who gives free research share so I can pump my allies full of techs while making sure the Italians don't get into the War.

On the research side of things I am mainly concentrating on the Artillery techs, the 70mm+ Infantry Gun's etc, you know the basic vanilla techs. I do not have a lot of IC's because of updating my industry and all so I'll have to make do with what I got.

A message came up which was meant to be a message sent to England asking for support against the Germans if they shuld invade from their illegal positions in the Rhineland. As I thought the British didnt answer.

So a round up of February and January then. I've started to extend the Maginot Line and by this time next year will have boosted my Industrial Capacity which will be nice. I have sorted out divisions in my respectable Navy into Fleets and posted them in Southern France. My manpower is increasing by 2.1 per month so I should be able to afford some more infantry in about 4 months ;). The airforce is looking like a lost cause, I'm going to have to concentrate on Infatry and Anti-Tank techs. I've set up convoys of Rubber to Poland and Russia, I've got far too much of the stuff anyway so it's about time something happened to some of it and if it keeps the Poles and the Ruskies industry afloat that cannot be a bad thing. I have no real armies yet apart from the 3 Motorized Infatry Divs and the 2 Armoured Divs. They are stationed in Bordeaux waiting to kick some Nationalist butt when everything kicks off.

In elections Spain voted Left but that doesn't matter because there will be a civil war soon, Greece voted left and there was some 'Great crisis of 1936' but I don't think it will affect me, nobody cares about Greece.

i was playing, all was going swimmingly, it was really really fun and then i get a mesage saying database mismatch.

i press ignore nothing happens i press it several hunred times and nothing happens, i press retry and nothing works so i have to abort and loose my save, i reloaded and the same thing happened. why oh why, is this a common core problem?

[trying to look like a proffesional technical support]

What is the date when db mismatch happens?
Is it fixed (like 1st August 1936) or it changes depending on the reloading the save game file?
Could you check the file history.txt (located in the HoI directory) and post last few entries?

:D

erm mi have been plain SU since so the history may b fucked up
